BYD Seal EV launching in India this year: Features, range, availability

  • The BYD Seal electric sedan is currently available across China and Europe
  • This comes just weeks after the BYD Atto 3 was officially launched in India
  • The top-end model of the BYD Seal can potentially run for up to 700 km on a full charge

The Auto Expo has seen the arrival of some exciting EVs, with the likes of Maruti Suzuki, MG, and others showcasing their offerings. China-based automaker BYD has also unveiled its upcoming electric sedan for India, the Seal EV. This follows the release of the BYD Atto 3 in India not too long ago.

There’s a lot to like about the new BYD Seal, which is currently available in the company’s home region of China and Europe. Similar to the Atto 3, the BYD Seal uses the automaker’s cutting-edge Blade Battery tech and is built on top of the e-Platform 3.0 architecture. The manufacturer revealed a limited-edition Forest Green colourway of the Seal at the Auto Expo.

BYD Seal EV Features and Range

While there’s no specificity on the model arriving in India, BYD markets the Seal in 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh versions, capable of running for 550 km and 700km, respectively, as per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle or CLTC.

The BYD Seal should be available in a dual-motor all-wheel drive model and a more affordable single-motor (rear-wheel) version. It’s likely that the company will only launch one of the two variants.

Meanwhile, the more powerful dual-motor version of the Seal can generate 530 hp and is only available with the 82.5 kWh battery model. The single motor variant is available in both battery configurations, with the ability to deliver 204 hp and 312 hp. On the inside, BYD is using some of the Atto 3’s attributes, including the heads-up display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and the 15.6-inch rotating infotainment system.

BYD Seal EV Availability

BYD didn’t reveal the price tag for its electric sedan, though the automaker is expected to share more information later this year. The good news is that BYD India expects to release the EV in India by Q4 2023, so pricing information should be available imminently.
