TikTok developer ByteDance has launched its new music streaming app called Resso in India. The app is developed for a new generation of music enthusiasts and offers a unique, easy-to-use experience. It plays music in unlimited scroll format just like TikTok and introducing new artists to users and also letting them discover new genres and songs. Resso will compete locally against Gaana, JioSavan and against global players such as Spotify, Youtube Music and Apple Music. Hari Nair, Head of Music Content and Partnerships, Resso India said in a statement, ‘Resso is designed to revolutionize how users consume music by filling the longstanding gap between music streaming and interacting with other listeners’.
The Resso app is free to download on both Android and iOS devices while the monthly premium subscription costs Rs 99 and Rs 119 respectively. The premium tier offers the option to skip ads, downloadable content and high-quality audio. The streaming platform comes with a Vibes feature that allows users to add their own GIFs, images and video to the platform that will be seen by other users. There are a heart icon, comment section and share tool to engage with others just like TikTok. Resso also allows users to select lyrics of a particular song and turn it into a poster that can be shared on social media platforms.
Hari states that ‘Gen Z and millennials are at the core of our offering and both music and social networking are central to their daily lives. Our goal is to encourage them as well as everyday music listeners to express themselves in an interactive and engaging way. The relationship between music and the listener is currently passive, with Vibes, Comments and other features, Resso aims to transform this through a new and compelling music streaming experience’.
