Canon had shown off a bunch of camera concepts at the CP+ 2019 event, and has now finally given shape to one of them. The latest camera from Canon is the IVY REC outdoor camera, and is being offered via a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
The clippable camera is very compact and comes in the shape of a clip, thus the name. The IVY REC is of the same size as a USB thumb drive and comes equipped with a built-in carabiner. As of now, the Indiegogo page is allowing users to sign up and they will be updated once the campaign goes live.
As far as features are concerned, the IVY REC is a compact shockproof and waterproof camera, much like the GoPro action camera but smaller in size. The clippable camera can be accessed and controlled via the CanonMini Cam App. In other words, you can use your smartphone as a viewfinder and control the IVY REC camera. Interestingly, Canon says the square end of the clip can be used to frame your shots, functioning somewhat like a viewfinder. The camera itself features a 13MP CMOS sensor and can capture 1080p video at 60fps.
That apart, the IVY REC features a single dial on the body. The dial can be used to switch between camera, video, multi, Wi-Fi mode and also to switch off the camera.
Canon has not announced pricing details. However, the Indiegogo page mentions that ‘early birds’ will receive as much as a 30 percent discount over the retail price.
