The unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was created to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named “Aadhaar”, to all citizens. The system is intended to be robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities and to ensure verification and authentication in an easy, cost-effective way.
Thus, your Aadhaar data must be always accurate and up to date. Aadhaar details that can be updated are:
- Demographic information: Like Name, Address, Date of Birth/Age, Gender, Mobile Number, Email Address, Relationship Status, and Information Sharing Consent
- Biometric information: This includes Iris, Fingerprints, and Facial Photograph
That 12-digit unique number on your Aadhaar Card helps to enable various services in both government and non-government services. These include subsidy benefits, pensions, scholarships, several social benefits, banking services, insurance, tax, education, employment, and healthcare, among many others.
Now is the perfect opportunity to change or revise your registered mobile number on your Aadhar Card. The UIDAI is currently providing this service free of charge on its online portal until June 14th. Indian residents are urged to take advantage of the myAadhaar portal to update their information without incurring any expenses. Alternatively, the process can be carried out at physical Aadhar centres throughout the country, but that will involve a fee. Here’s your complete step-by-step guide on how to change your registered mobile number on your Aadhaar Card.
How to change my mobile number in Aadhaar?
If you have not registered your mobile number while enrolling for Aadhaar, you must visit a Permanent Enrolment Centre to complete it at the earliest. Registering and updating your mobile number is mandatory to ensure that you can make any Aadhaar changes online. While making changes online, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to the registered mobile number to verify and authenticate the user – that is you.
However, you cannot change your mobile number online. You must visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Permanent Enrolment Centre to change your mobile number. No documents need to be submitted in order to change your mobile number. Please remember to carry your mobile phone and, of course, the Aadhaar Card.
