Citroën India teases the affordable ëC3 EV: Expected features, price, and more

  • The Citroën C3 is currently among the top petrol hatchbacks in the sub-Rs 10 lakhs segment
  • It is rumoured that the ëC3 Electric could offer more range than Tata’s affordable EV
  • Citroën could unveil the ëC3 EV as early as next month

Citroen’s intentions to launch a new EV in India have been well documented. The company has now teased the imminent arrival of the electric car while also confirming that it will be known as the Citroën ëC3 Electric. This teaser also has the usual suite of social media hashtags, which will likely make the rounds ahead of the EV’s official arrival next month.

Unfortunately, the teaser doesn’t include information on the EV’s launch date, nor does it provide a pricing estimate. But we expect it to cost significantly more than the top-end petrol version of the Citroën C3. However, we don’t foresee any design changes from its petrol sibling, barring minor interior tweaks.

Previous reporting has revealed that the EV could feature a marginally better battery pack than the one used on the Tata Tiago EV, so expect just over 315 km of range on a full charge. A 30.2 kWh battery has been suggested, but Citroën hasn’t confirmed this aspect of the automobile yet. Other rumours have suggested that the ëC3 Electric will use an electric motor capable of delivering 84 BHP and 143 Nm of peak torque, so it should hold its own against the competition.

Citroën ëC3 Electric expected price and availability

TeamBHP predicts that the ëC3 Electric could fit between Tata’s Nexon EV and the Tiago EV in terms of pricing. While this won’t make it the cheapest EV in India, the EV will certainly find an audience in the region.

The Citroën C3 (Petrol)

The company will likely showcase the ëC3 Electric during the 2023 Auto Expo next month. Precise availability-related information isn’t available at the moment, but reports have previously suggested that the vehicle could go on sale by March 2023 after an unveiling in January.
