Although the days where the average consumers used data sparingly are behind us, courtesy of Reliance Jio, data consuming apps are on the rise. This may result in us occasionally hitting the daily data usage cap. Google has released an app of its own which can help curb the extra costs that could be incurred due to this. The app has been dubbed as Datally and is now available through the Play Store.
The application will help you understand, control and save on mobile data. It also lets you track your data usage in real time. The app organises data usage based on hourly, daily, weekly and even monthly basis to help you keep track of how data has been used over a time frame.
Another useful feature of the application is its ability to track down available Wi-Fi networks located nearby. Datally also pro-actively notifies users of any public Wi-Fi networks available when the phone is hooked up to a data connection.
Similar to the feature found on many custom user interfaces like MIUI, the app also allows restricting data usage of a particular application that may be hogging on data in the background. This feature can be particularly useful if you are looking to avoid random advertisements.
Pro Tip: Restrict data to applications like games to avoid advertisements during Gameplay (provided the game is an offline based one)
Google had been testing this application in the Philippines for a while and has noticed up to 30% data savings after the app was installed. With the app coming straight from the developers at Google, it carries more credibility than some other rather shady apps also available on the Play Store.
