At an event held in Delhi today, PC manufacturer Dell has unveiled three new laptops in the country. The devices are Dell Alienware Area 51m, Alienware m15 and G7. All the three devices were announced at this year’s CES. Let’s take a detailed look below at each one of them:
Dell Alienware Area 51m:
The Dell Alienware Area 51m is the industry’s first laptop with an upgradeable CPU and GPU. Design-wise, the laptop sports a magnesium alloy build with a ‘three-knuckle-hinge’ design and measures 4.40kgs on a weighing scale. The Area 51m sports a 17.3-inch full HD IPS display available in either 60Hz or 144Hz panel options. It features an RGB backlit keyboard for working in dimly-lit environments. The laptop is available in two colour variants – white and matte black.
Under the hood, the Alienware Area 51m packs powerful hardware with desktop-level components. The laptop is powered by Intel’s latest 9th Gen CPU’s ranging from Core i7-8700 up to i9-9900K. It also houses Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX graphics cards. Buyers can choose from RTX 2060 with 6GB GDDR6 RAM, RTX 2070 or RTX 2080, both with 8GB GDDR6 RAM. The Area 51m packs 8GB onboard DDR4 RAM upgradeable up to 64GB. The laptop comes with single, dual, and triple storage configurations which include hybrid drives, PCIe M2 SSD, and RAID 0. It offers storage space of 256GB to 2TB in the form of SSD or 1TB hybrid drives. The Area 51m is backed by a 90Wh battery unit which keeps it running.
Connectivity-wise, the Area 51m is equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 (Type-C) port, three USB 3.1 Type-A ports, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, and a graphics amplifier port.
The Dell Alienware Area 51m is a perfect choice for heavy users and gamers who can upgrade the components a few years down the line instead of going for a new machine.
Dell Alienware m15:
Dell launched the compact Alienware m15 gaming laptop last year. The company had announced the refreshed model of the laptop with updated configurations at CES.
The new Alienware m15 retains the design and build of its previous model. The device sports the same 15.6-inch screen but comes in two new display panels. One is a 4K HDR 400-rated display with 500nits of brightness and the other is FHD display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
On the hardware front, Dell has updated the m15 with up to Intel’s 8th Gen Core i7-8750 processors. The laptop is available in two RTX 20 Max-Q GPU models which include RTX 2060, or RTX 2070 Max-Q. It offers real-time ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and programmable shading. In terms of storage, the m15 offers 1TB PCIe SSD storage as well as up to two 1TB SSD’s in dual drive configurations (up from 1TB SSD + 1TB HDD).
The Alienware m15 is a portable machine weighing just 2.16kgs and aimed at gamers on-the-go.
The Dell G7 laptop is aimed at budget gamers with powerful specifications. The laptop comes in two screen sizes of 15-inch and 17-inch. However, the company only announced the 15-inch variant this time which comes with an FHD panel and a 144Hz refresh rate. The G7 is touted to be the thinnest laptop in the G-series. It features a four-zone RGB keyboard with custom lighting.
In terms of internals, the G7 houses the latest 8th Gen Intel Core hexacore processors. Buyers have the option to choose from Core i5-8300HQ, i7-8750HQ or i9-8950HK chipsets. The laptop also comes in three GPU models comprising of RTX 2060, RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 with Max-Q architecture. The G7 is available in 8GB or 16GB onboard RAM. It can be configured in various storage options of up to 1TB of hybrid HDD, 1TB of NVMe SSD or dual storage of 1TB SSD & 2TB HDD.
The Dell G7 is backed by a 4-cell 60Whr or a 6-cell 90Whr battery option.
Pricing & Availability:
The price of the Dell Alienware Area 51m starts at Rs 2,99,590. The Alienware m15’s starting price has been set at Rs 1,78,399. Lastly, the Dell G7 series will start retailing at Rs 1,57,399. All the three devices will be available at retail outlets across the country and Dell India’s official e-store starting from April 1st.
