IFA 2018 is currently underway and we have already seen a plethora gadgets from smart devices to mobiles to PCs. Acer already took the wrap of the world’s lightest 15-inch laptop alongside the launch of its refreshed Aspire lineup with the latest 8th Gen Intel Core processors.
American computer manufacturing giant Dell has also launched various computing devices to expand its portfolio in each category. Let’s take a look at the gadgets unveiled by Dell at IFA 2018:
INSPIRON 7000 2-in 1s:
The new Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 family flaunts a sleek and premium design with a brushed aluminium exterior. The laptops in this category come in 13, 15, and 17-inch sizes. This is a 2-in 1 laptop that lets you use it in different form factors. There is an option to opt for 4K UHD screen. The 13 and 15-inch variants have three sided narrow bezels and a new 2.7mm miniaturized webcam for video calling purposes. It offers better performance in low light with Temporal Noise Reduction.
Under the hood, the devices are powered by 8th Gen Intel U series processors. All the three laptops are equipped with thermal routing to move hot air out through the hidden vents.
The 15 and 17-inch variants are equipped with NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics for gaming and other graphic intensive functions like photo editing and video rendering. The laptops come with Intel Optane Memory that accelerates the overall system performance. All the three Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s are Alexa ready, and supoort will be available this autumn.
INSPIRON 5000 2-in-1s:
The Dell Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 comes in two versions- 5481 & 5482. Both the variants borrow some technical specifications from the 7000 series but carry a comparatively low price tag. Thermal routing in both devices dissipates heat. The Inspiron 5000 series comes in different configurations. Both the laptops run on 8th Gen Intel U series processors. The 5482 model comes with NVIDIA GeForce MX130 discrete graphics card. The devices pack up to 32GB DDR4 memory. There are SSD and dual drive storage options available. Other features include a optional fingerprint scanner and a backlit keyboard. In terms of connectivity both the models offer USB Type-C ports for fast data transfers and charging. Other ports include USB 3.1, USB 2.0 and an HDMI port. Both the 5481 and 5482 variants have the option to run on Windows 10 in S mode in select regions.
DELL INSPIRON CHROMEBOOK 14:
Dell has added its first Chromebook to the Inspiron lineup dubbed as the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1. If you are curious what a Chromebook is, it is a laptop running on Google’s Chrome OS instead of Windows or Mac OS. The Chromebook 14 is a 2-in-1 convertible which provides flexibility to the users and can be used it in different form factors. The device comes with a 14-inch FHD IPS display. It has an aluminium chassis and narrow bezels on all sides of the display.
As for the internal hardware, the Chromebook 14 houses the latest 8th Gen Intel Core i3– 8130U chipset. It offers up to 128GB of onboard eMMC storage. The device offers up to 15 hours of battery life. It features USB Type-C ports, a standard backlit keyboard and an EMR pen.
The Chromebook 14 is a good choice for those who want flexibility and smooth integration with Google apps and its ecosystem.
DELL XPS 13:
The Dell XPS 13 is the smallest 13-inch 2-in-1 flagship laptop offered by the company. The device has been refreshed with Intel’s latest 8th Generation processors. The company also announced that the XPS 13 Developer Edition is now available with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, an update that will provide support for up to five years. The 2-in-1 features a Dynamic Power Mode that delivers maximum performance as well as up to 15 hours pf battery life. The Dell XPS 13 offers a UltraSharp QHD+ InfinityEdge touch display.
VOSTRO 14 & 15 5000 Laptops:
To cater to the needs of small businesses, Dell has expanded its Vostro lineup with the new Vostro 14 and 15 5000 laptops. These laptops focus on productivity and security features required by small businesses. The devices are powered by 8th Gen Intel Core processors offering up to 32GB DDR4 RAM and NVIDIA GeForce MX 130 graphics. The Vostro 14 and 15 laptops offer various security features like hardware TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0 providing commercial grade protection and Bitlocker to configure security settings.
AVAILABILITY & PRICING:
While some products may launch later this year, others may not make it to the market until the early 2019. The launch date and pricing also varies from region to region.
- The Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 will be available from October 2 in the US and Canada. The base variant (13-inch) will be priced at $879.99. The 15-inch and 17-inch variants will be priced at $849.99 and $1,099.99 respectively.
- The Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 (5481) & (5482) will go on sale from October 2 in North America at $459.99 & 599.99 respectively.
- The Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 will hit North American markets on October 23 starting at $599.
- The Vostro 5481 will go on sale on January 2 2019 starting at $669. The Vostro 5581 will be available in North America from November 9 at $579.
