In the design aspect, the new laptop from Dell truly stands out. It features an all-new finish in white colour which has glass fiber woven in, giving it a more aesthetic look and feel. In addition to that, the brand has coated the laptop with an anti-stain coating. This layer of protection ensures that the laptop stays stain free. Dell has claimed that the body of the laptop can withstand various types of stains provided it is cleaned within 7 days of use.
The display is another major highlight of the laptop. The Dell XPS 13 has a 13-inch InfinityEdge display. With this display, Dell has managed to attain a screen to body ratio of 80%, which is appreciable for a laptop. With this offering, the brand has managed to eliminate bezels on almost all sides except the bottom where the camera sensors and Dell branding are located. Coming to the display resolution, the laptop rocks either a full-HD panel or an Ultra-HD 4K panel.
Performance and Storage
In terms of performance, the Dell XPS 13 has now been updated to feature the all-new quad-core 8th generation processors from Intel. Users can choose between the 8th generation i5 (8250U) or i7 (8550U) processors. If you choose the i5 variant, the laptop will ship with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage. On the other hand, if you choose to go all out and opt for the i7 variant, you will get 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. In addition to that, the top end i7 variant also comes with the crisp 4K display.
Software, Battery and Extra Features
On the software front, the Dell XPS 13 will ship with Windows 10 pre-installed. Combining the high efficiency of the new chipsets by Intel and software enhancements, the new laptop by Dell has put some bold claims in terms of battery life as well. The XPS 13 is capable of running up to 20 hours on a single charge. However, the top of the line model that comes with a 4K display will offer up to 11 hours of runtime owing to its power consuming display.
Another attractive aspect of this laptop has to be its dual camera setup that is located just below the display. The camera was earlier located on the bottom left corner which has now been placed in the center. This would provide a better field of view when using it for video chats. Also, the new camera setup offers support for Microsoft Hello, which serves as a way to securely login to the laptop.
To summarise, the Dell XPS 13 seems to be a well rounded laptop and possible a great value for money at a starting price of $999(~Rs.63,395). The laptop is currently up for grabs in the United States. It is also likely for this device to come to India in the coming weeks. What are your thoughts?
