The bezel-less war is getting interesting by each passing day. Last year, Xiaomi added fuel to this fire by launching the Mi MIX – a bezel-less phone with 93% screen to body ratio. Nowadays, every other smartphone maker is trying to push the pixels closer to the edge of the phone. Recently, Korean tech giant also introduces its flagship device of this year – Galaxy S8 with dual edge curved display. This is the second flagship device of this year (LG G6 being the first one) to launch with an 18:9 screen ratio which the company likes to call “Infinity Display”.
But here’s a catch. Whenever we think of a bezel-less phone, what comes first in our mind – a phone with a mere display. Nothing but the display. Yeah, exactly like those in sci-fi movies. But, what about those sensors, earpiece or the selfie camera? Where are we supposed to place them? Well, these are one of few constraints which the smartphone makers have to overcome.
All right, Chinese smartphone maker Elephone has decided to overcome one of the key constraints we were talking about – selfie camera. Recently, the company has teased a new smartphone with a non-existent top bezel. And, you know what? The front camera pops up from the rear of the device. Yeah, that’s right. We’re speculating that the company may implement this design in its upcoming flagship. If you remember, Oppo once tried the similar stunt with its N-series smartphones.
Well, it’s hard to comment on this technology right now. So let’s just be optimistic about it and hope that it works out.
