Does the fingerprint sensor in your smartphone only unlocks the device? Well, now you can use it to do a more lot than that.
Nowadays, every other smartphone irrespective of the price houses a fingerprint sensor. But, what’s the use of a fingerprint sensor once you’ve unlocked the device? Although OEMs like Google and Lenovo have started adding a range of quick features which can be accessed via the fingerprint scanner only. With Z2 Plus, Lenovo went ahead and enabled its fingerprint sensor to perform 7 different tasks.
Now, there’s an app which can help you program the fingerprint sensor to perform a particular task. Fingerprint Quick Action, is developed by a member of XDA-Developer website which lets users perform quick actions just with a tap on the fingerprint scanner. With this app, users can select between 4 quick actions (Sleep, Home, Expand Notifications Panel, and Toggle Notification Panel) which can be triggered from the fingerprint scanner.
The Sleep action put the phone into sleep mode, but it does interfere with smart unlock feature and results in fingerprint unlock not working. So, we wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re using a Xiaomi device, it works perfectly on MIUI.
Now you can toggle (expand/collapse) notification panel on your screen via fingerprint sensor similar to how it works on the Google Pixel smartphones. This app works on all the devices running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above irrespective of whether the device is rooted or not.
It also adds another option called “Response enrolled fingerprints only” which enables the phone to respond only to stored fingerprints. We tested this app on Asus Zenfone 3 and it worked totally fine. Being in the development stage, the app has some bugs but it’s still worth trying.
One of the major bugs we came across the app is that the Home quick action doesn’t work when one is in the App Drawer. Apart from that, it worked flawlessly and the Toggle Notification Panel quick action does make your life easy if you’re using a big screen phone.
