Taiwan’s largest EV two-wheeler manufacturer, Gogoro, is all set to enter the Indian market with its premium electric scooters, Gogoro 2 and Gogoro 2 Plus. The company has received homologation for the two models, indicating that the EVs have been approved for sale in India.
Gogoro has been conducting a pilot project for its battery-swapping technology in India and has signed up with Metalman Auto to manufacture its EVs. The battery-swapping technology reduces the turnaround time for recharging the battery to a couple of minutes, similar to filling up a vehicle’s fuel tank at a petrol pump. The company has been testing its facilities to set up its battery-swapping technology in India.
The homologation documents of the Gogoro 2 and Gogoro 2 Plus reveal that the EVs are expected to boast a certified range of 85km and 94km, respectively. The Gogoro 2 has a higher power rating on its motor at 7.2kW compared to the Gogoro 2 Plus’s 6.4kW. The two models have a gross weight of 273kg, according to the leaked homologation documents, but the official specifications are yet to be disclosed by the company.

The electric scooters are expected to be positioned in the premium end of the market and will compete with the likes of the Ola S1 range and Ather 450 range. Both Gogoro electric scooters are expected to feature a conventional set of switchgear and a negative LCD digital display for the driver’s instrumentation. The scooters could also get ABS for their braking system, as it is already available in the international variant. Other modern features, such as LED lighting, are also expected.
There is no word on the expected pricing of the electric scooters. However, it is believed that they will be priced competitively to cater to the Indian market’s growing demand for electric vehicles. With the Indian government’s focus on promoting electric mobility, the entry of Gogoro could boost the adoption of electric two-wheelers in the country.
The launch of Gogoro 2 and Gogoro 2 Plus in India will mark the company’s first international foray outside of Taiwan. With its advanced battery-swapping technology and premium electric scooters, Gogoro is poised to make a significant impact in India’s electric vehicle market.
