Free Fire download on Jio Phone doesn’t work, and videos claiming so are fake

Free Fire’s growing popularity in India in the wake of the void left by PUBG Mobile seems to have its own peril. The popularity of Garena’s battle royale game has resulted in a massive misinformation campaign. Free Fire is arguably one of the most popular mobile games right now. Since its launch three years ago, the game has been downloaded over 500 million times on the Google Play Store alone.

It is important to know that Free Fire is a smartphone game and is available on Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS platforms. However, if you want to play the game on Reliance’s Jio Phone, the smart feature phone from India’s richest man, then it is just not possible.

There are several videos and misinformation being disbursed through online channels that claim that Jio Phone users can play Free Fire on their devices. For one, the JioPhone runs on a platform called KaiOS, an operating system designed with smart feature phones with a keypad in mind. While the platform is capable of running social applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook and even YouTube, it does not support graphics intensive games like Free Fire.

However, there are a number of videos doing the rounds that claim to offer the APK needed to install Free Fire on JioPhone. The videos showing Free Fire running on JioPhone are doing massive disservice to their readers. These videos basically playback the gameplay of Free Fire and then claim to have the game installed on the device. If you come across any such claim then we recommend you steer clear of these videos and articles.

Before we get into why you cannot play Garena Free Fire on JioPhone, let’s first take a look at minimum system requirements for Free Fire on Android and iOS:

Free Fire system requirements for Android

  • OS: Android 4.4
  • CPU: Dual core 1.2GHz
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Storage: 1.5GB+

Free Fire system requirements for iOS

  • OS: iOS 9
  • CPU: Apple A7 or newer
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Storage: 1.5GB+

Free Fire notes on its support section that these minimum requirements don’t mean that the game will run smoothly. For smooth gameplay, it recommends minimum 3GB of RAM on Android and an iPhone with at least A10 Fusion chip with 3GB of RAM. JioPhone not only lacks a compatible operating system but with 512MB RAM, it won’t be capable of pushing that many pixels. So, next time you see a video claiming to show Free Fire running on JioPhone, rest assured that it’s just not possible.
