Gizmore Slate Review: Chic smartwatch for health enthusiasts

If you are looking for a budget smartwatch in India, then you will be spoilt for choice. There are plenty of options to choose from. Gizmore recently came up with a women-centric budget smartwatch. The device is available only on Snapdeal and packs in a host of health and wellness features at a price tag of Rs 1,799.

Design and Display

The Gizfit Slate smartwatch features a 1.57-inch IPS Curved Display with a peak brightness of 500 nits. The first thing that strikes about the smartwatch is its rectangular dial. Most smartwatches have a square dial and thus this looks like a welcome change. However, it does take sometime getting used to. The sunlight visibility for the smartwatch is good.

It also packs in the Always-on-Display (AoD) feature, which is rare in this price range. The watch is made of metal and has silicon straps. The Gizfit 911 Slate is available in pink, grey and black colour options. For this review, we had the grey-coloured option to play around with. Having used some of the smartwatches by the competition in the sub Rs-5,000 segment, I was expecting the straps to be flimsical but was pleasantly surprised.

Software

The Gizfit 911 Slate runs a custom-built operating system and is compatible with Android and iOS via the Vfit app. The app will give all the detailed stats of your activity. It also supports 100+ watch faces which users can change by going into the menu and selecting the watchface of their presence.

Battery Life and Performance

It comes packed with health and fitness features. The watch is fairly accurate in noting the step count, heart rate etc.

Estimate suggests that 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years worldwide have hypertension. What’s more, is that only 21% of the people that have blood pressure have it under control. One of the major reasons for the same is that blood pressure is not checked as often as it should. Smartwatches are now looking at changing that. GIZFIT Slate too has a blood pressure monitor. While it is best to have these vitals checked via proper instruments that are designed specifically for this purpose, having it in a watch makes it easier to keep a tab.

Not just footsteps, you can now track your calories and fitness routines as well with the smartwatches that support 90 exercises. You can also monitor the amount of sweat you break while you exercise; and how fast your heart recovers. You can also set your wellness goals and crush them one at a time. While you’re achieving your goals, you will also be awarded special badges that will keep you motivated all day long.

GIZFIT Slate claims to deliver up to seven days of battery backup on a single charge without Bluetooth calling. In our usage, it easily lasted 5 to 6 days with heavy to moderate use on a single charge. The only downside is that it takes a lot of time to go from 0 to 100%. With fast charging becoming a norm, the impatience generation may want their smartwatches to be ready for use in lesser time.

Verdict

The design is the highlight of the smartwatch. It is its biggest USP and its biggest drawback. People looking for a traditional-looking classic piece may be instantly drawn to it but people who prefer square dials and are used to it may want to explore other options. In terms of performance, GIZFIT Slate is a good value-for-money smartwatch.
