Google makes it extraordinarily difficult to log out from Gmail on smartphones running Android or iOS. There is no one click button called “Sign Out” or “Log Out” for Gmail on Android or iOS. Google itself notes that the only way to sign out from these smartphones is to remove the account altogether. Here is how you can do that on Android or iOS:


To log out from Gmail on mobile, you need to remove the account

  1. Open the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad or Android phone or tablet.
  2. Tap on your profile picture at the top right corner.
  3. Tap on Manage accounts on this device.
  4. Now choose the account you want to remove.
  5. Tap on Remove Account or Delete Account option at the bottom.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Scroll to Accounts and Sync or User Accounts depending on your device.
  3. Tap on Google if your device classifies accounts based on apps.
  4. Now choose the account you want to remove.
  5. Tap on Remove Account or Delete Account option at the bottom.

Google users should know that removing the account only removes it from that particular device. You will still be able to use it on your other devices. When you remove an account, it removes the account from all the apps on that device.

So, when you remove your Google account, you will be signed out from Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Photos, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and other applications. This option is effective when you want to remove your personal information from your device.

How to sign out of Gmail on an Android device

It is relatively easy to log out of your Gmail account on your Android smartphone. Follow the step mentioned below to log out of your Gmail account on an Android device. 

  1. On your Android smartphone or tablet, launch the Gmail app.
  2. Tap your profile photo in the upper right.
  3. After that, tap on the Manage accounts option. 
  4. Now select your Gmail account. 
  5. At the bottom of the screen, you will see the Remove account option; tap on it. 

How to sign out of Gmail on iPhone

The signing out of Gmail on iPhone is quite similar to Android. To sign out of Gmail on iPhone, follow the steps mentioned below: 

  1. Open the Gmail app and select your profile picture in the upper right corner.
  2. After that, select Manage accounts on this device from the menu.
  3. To remove an account, tap Remove from this device.
  4. After that, tap on confirm.

If you lose or misplace your device, you can even logout remotely.

How to Sign out of Gmail on a Lost or Missing Device

Although users should keep in mind that even if you delete the account from your phone or tablet, it won’t affect your ability to use it on other computers or devices.
