Goodbye Qualcomm, Xiaomi Is Reportedly Working On Its Own Chipset

On: February 13, 2017

If the recent reports are said to be true, Xiaomi is soon going to join the club of Apple, Samsung and Huawei for manufacturing smartphones with its own chipset. According to a report published by Wall Street Journal, Xiaomi is soon launching its custom made chipset ‘Pinecone’. It is also being said that Xiaomi’s next flagship device Mi6 will also be equipped with own chipset. It will also help the Chinese smartphone maker to cut the cost as well as moving toward a better technology with seamless hardware and software integration.

If everything goes as per the plan, Xiaomi will be the second Chinese smartphone to manufacture its own chipset after Huawei. The chipset is said to be manufactured by Beijing Pinecone Electronics; a company recently got tied to Xiaomi as a result of technology transfer from Datang subsidiary Leadcore Technology Ltd. Xiaomi paid $15 million to acquire this mobile processor technology.

Xiaomi ditches Qualcomm

Currently, all the Android OEM except for Samsung and Huawei rely on Qualcomm for providing the chipset for their high-end smartphones. Sometimes it causes unwanted delays or even blunders like Snapdragon 810. Unfortunately, most of the OEMs have no alternative for this issue. Well, it looks like Xiaomi has no plans to hide under the shadow of third party chipset manufacturer and already busy in building its own bridge.

Let’s just hope; we get to see the Xiaomi’s next flagship device Mi6 with Pinecone processor.
