At its annual hardware event today, Google unveiled several new devices. Alongside the launch of the Pixel 4 and Pixelbook Go, the search engine giant also announced new smart home devices like the Nest Mini and Nest Wifi. Alongside, the brand also introduced the Pixel Buds 2. Let’s take a look at the devices below:
Nest Mini specifications and features:
The Google Nest Mini looks a lot like its predecessor. However, it comes with upgraded hardware and features. Google claims that the Nest Mini produces twice the bass of the original Home Mini. The device is equipped with a dedicated machine learning chipset to improve Google Assistant performance. Based on the background noise, the Nest Mini will dynamically adjust the volume of Assistant, news, and podcasts. The smart speaker also doubles up as an intercom and conferencing speaker so users can call the device directly using Duo.
The Nest Mini retains the same design as the Home Mini. It has soft round edges and is available in Chalk, Charcoal, Coral and a new Sky colour. The fabric covering on Nest Mini is made of 100 percent recycled plastic bottles, keeping in mind Google’s focus on sustainability. The Nest Mini comes with a screw at the bottom of the device making it possible to wall mount it as well. There are also LED lights on both sides of the fabric mesh, indicating where the volume buttons are.
Connectivity-wise, the Nest Mini supports Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac.
Nest Wifi specifications and features:
The Nest Wifi follows Google Wifi that was introduced back in 2016. It is a Wi-Fi system that also doubles up as a smart speaker. The Nest Wifi consists of two devices – a Router and a Point. The Wi-Fi access ‘Point’ comes with Google Assistant built-in and expands the network coverage to specific areas in the user’s home. According to Google, the Nest Wifi is capable of delivering two times the speed and up to 25 percent better coverage compared to Google Wifi. With one router and one point, the device can deliver coverage for a 3,800 square foot home. The system is scalable and users can add more Wi-Fi points to expand the network coverage. The Nest Wifi system is compatible with Google Wifi networks as well.
The Nest Wifi can be set up and controlled easily with the Google Home App. The device is available in three colour options – Snow, Sand and Mist.
Pixel Buds 2 specifications and features:
The Pixel Buds 2 is the successor to the Pixel Buds. Google claims that its next-gen Pixel Buds 2 are truly wireless earphones. It features hands-free access to Google Assistant. The Pixel Buds 2 also offer touch controls for controlling music playback. The earphones support long-range connectivity which Google claims can remain connected through three rooms or up to a football field’s length. The Pixel Buds 2 are capable of lasting up to 5 hours and up to 24 hours using the wireless charging case.
