Google Pixel 4a with Snapdragon 730G launched, coming to India in October

After much anticipation, Google has finally launched its mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 4a. The comapny was supposed to debut the device in May at its annual developer conference, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Pixel 4a is a toned-down variant of the Pixel 4 launched last October.

The latest offering is also the successor to last year’s Pixel 3a. However, Google has only launched the Pixel 4a at this time, and announced that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will debut this fall. 

Google Pixel 4a specifications and features

The Pixel 4a comes with a punch-hole selfie camera 

The Pixel 4a sports an FHD+ OLED display measuring 5.8-inches. It comes with a punch-hole cutout at the top left corner and HDR+ support. The screen is surrounded b minimal bezels. There is a physical fingerprint scanner on the back and a rectangular camera module. The smartphone comes with a Titan M security chip for additional security purposes. The Pixel 4a is offered in an only Black colour accentuated with a Mint Green power button. 

On the camera front, the Pixel 4a features a single 12MP sensor on the back. The smartphone borrows camera features like live HDR+, dual exposure controls, night side, astrophotography, portrait mode and super res zoom from the Pixel 4. Google says that the device is also capable of capturing the Milky Way. In the front, the Pixel 4a is fitted with an 8MP wide-angle camera for selfies. 

Internally, the Pixel 4a is powered by a Snapdragon 730G processor. It is paired with 6GB RAM and the device offers 128GB onboard storage. The smartphone is backed by a 3,140mAh battery unit with support for USB-C 18W fast charging. Software-wise, the Pixel 4a runs on Android 10 OS out of the box and comes with accessibility features like Voice Access, Live Transcribe and Live Caption. Google says that the smartphone will receive three years of guaranteed OS and security updates. 

The Pixel 4a comes with e-SIM support, 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers.

Google Pixel 4a pricing and availability

Google has set the price of Pixel 4a at $349 (~Rs 26,200). The smartphone will be bundled with three cases in Basically Black, Blue Confetti and Static Grey colours. It will go on sale in US, UK  and select countries first. Indian users will have to wait a couple of months, with the phone only arriving here in October.

Google has also revealed that the Pixel 4a 5G will start at $499 (~Rs 37,500). Specifications of the device have not been revealed yet.
