In August, Google announced the mid-range Pixel 4a. The Snapdragon 730-powered phone only packed support for 4G connectivity. Today, the search engine took the covers off the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 as its first smartphones with 5G support.

Unlike the Pixel 4 series phones that were announced in October 2019 with flagship specs, the Pixel 5 features mid-range specifications bringing it almost on par with the Pixel 4a 5G. The new Pixel phones are fitted with 12-megapixel dual cameras, Snapdragon 765G processors and punch-hole displays.

The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G are the first 5G-enabled phones from Google
The Google Pixel 5 is an IP68-rated device that features a metallic chassis. It has a 6-inch OLED display with a punch-hole cutout. The display features full HD+ resolution and HDR support. It sports a 90Hz refresh rate and comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The Google Pixel 4a 5G is a polycarbonate-clad phone and it houses a 6.2-inch OLED display with a punch-hole cutout, full HD+ resolution, HDR support, 60Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The Snapdragon 765G mobile platform is present under the hood of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. The Pixel 4a 5G has 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 3,800mAh battery, whereas the Pixel 5 has 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. Both phones come with an internal storage of 128GB (UFS 2.1) and they carry support for 18W fast charging. The Pixel 5 also has support for wireless charging and reverse charging, which are unavailable on the Pixel 4a 5G.
The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have identical cameras on their front and rear panels. They are equipped with 8-megapixel selfie snappers. At the rear, both phones are fitted with a square-shaped camera module that houses a Sony IMX355 12.2-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS, and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 107-degree field of view.
The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G run Android 11 out-of-the-box with a minimum three years of OS and security updates. These phones are equipped with other features such as eSIM, nano-SIM, Titan M security, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, stereo speakers, and a rear-mouted fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 4a 5G features a 3.5mm headphone jack, but this is missing on the Pixel 5.
Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G pricing and availability
The Google Pixel 5 is priced at $699 (~Rs 51,400) and it comes in Sorta Sage and Just Black colours. On the other hand, the Pixel 4a 5G is priced at $499 (~Rs 36,700) and it comes in Clearly White and Just Black colours. Both phones will be available in the US, but not in India.
