Google already makes WearOS for smartwatches, however, it is yet to announce its own in-house device. The company has been long rumoured to launch a smartwatch for the past few years. The Google Pixel Watch will compete against the likes of the Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, and others in the wearables space.

The Google Pixel Watch may finally launch next year

Business Insider says that Google executives have told employees that they plan to launch the watch next year. The internal documents viewed by the publication suggest the watch will run the latest version of Google’s smartwatch software called WearOS 3. The search giant has also started allowing employees outside the smartwatch team to test the device. Currently, it’s unclear whether the wearable device will be called Pixel Watch or Android Watch, however, its codename ‘Rohan’ has been definitely confirmed. The latter was also previously reported by YouTuber Jon Prosser.

Earlier this year, Google acquired wearable brand Fitbit, however, it has no plans of branding its smartwatches as a Fitbit device. The report further reveals that the Google Pixel Watch will offer a heart rate monitor and basic tracking features. The device will require daily charging and one employee who tested the device mentioned that the charging speed was slow. The Google Pixel Watch will also come with proprietary bands just like the Apple Watch.

The leaked renders of the Google Pixel Watch revealed a minimalistic design with a circular bezel-less display and slim form factor. According to Business Insider, the device would be comfortable to wear for at least 90 percent of the population. The smartwatch is tipped to debut as early as next spring depending on the successful feedback from people who are testing it.
