Hayu reality TV video streaming service to launch in India this year, will offer Hindi subtitles

Hayu, the subscription-based reality TV video streaming service owned by NBCUniversal, will launch in India in 2021. The service was introduced in 2016 and is now being expanded to one of the fastest growing streaming video-on-demand markets in the world. Hayu India has started teasing the arrival of the service on its official Twitter account.

We have also seen advertisements about the service on Amazon India app. The reality on demand streaming service is currently available in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Singapore. Here is what you need to know.

Hayu India: available shows

From Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix to players like Voot, Zee5, Song LIV, Sun Nxt, MXPlayer, AltBalaji, there’s no dearth of demand and supply when it comes to OTT services. Soon, Hayu will join this expansive video streaming market. The service features on demand reality television aired in the US.

The landing page for the service in India notes that many “shows will be available straight after the US”. This includes popular reality TV shows such as Top Chef, Family Karma, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, The Real Housewives and more. This content will also offer Hindi subtitles and the service has created a mailing list for those interested to stay updated.

Like its debut in the UK in 2016, Hayu is expected to offer a free one-month trial at the time of its launch in India as well. This trial should allow you to watch over 7,500 episodes of reality content. The biggest selling point of this platform will be a host of reality series never seen before being made available in full box sets.

Hayu India: expected price

In the UK, Hayu costs £4.99 (~Rs 500) for a month. However, it’s possible that Hayu might debut with a competitive pricing strategy like Disney+ Hotstar in India. We will soon know how much it will cost to watch the latest season of Below Deck or any episodes of the Bachelor, Celebrity Call Centre and others.
