Hero MotorCorp’s first electric scooter launching next month

  • The company received a major reprieve in its legal battle against Hero Electric this year
  • Hero MotorCorp will reveal additional information on its electric scooter next month
  • Information such as pricing, available variants, etc, are currently unavailable

Several manufacturers have launched electric two-wheelers in the highly competitive Indian market so far. But the nation’s largest producer of two-wheelers, Hero MotorCorp, has been absent from the list. That will change soon, with the company’s first electric scooter under the Vida series scheduled to launch next month.

The development was confirmed as part of a regulatory filing, with Hero MotorCorp saying that “a new era in mobility is about to begin,” referencing the company’s October 7 launch event in Jaipur, Rajasthan, for the new Vida range of scooters.

Hero MotorCorp has been fighting a legal battle with Hero Electric, with the latter requesting the court to stop Hero MotorCorp from using the Hero brand name on its upcoming electric scooters. But the arbitration panel ruled in favour of Hero MotorCorp earlier this year, paving the way for the company to release its electric scooters in the country.

Will Hero MotorCorp make an impact in the crowded electric scooter segment?

The electric two-wheeler market in India is extremely competitive at the moment, so Hero MotorCorp’s offerings will face a stiff challenge when they arrive. However, given the company’s vast network of outlets across the country, marketing these new electric scooters will be significantly easier than it would be for the newer brands.
