Update: We have now obtained exclusive press renders showing the upcoming Honor 8A in two more colors: Gold and Red. This means the entry-level smartphone will be available in at least four colors at launch: Black, Blue, Gold, and Red. In addition to the new renders, we can now confirm the smartphone will start at CNY 799 ($116) in its home market for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. The 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, on the other hand, will cost CNY 999 ($145).
The Honor 7A, which was launched in mid-2018, was one of the cheapest smartphones from Huawei’s sub-brand. Now, it looks like the successor to the Honor 7A will be launched this month in the form of the Honor 8A. While specifications of the devices have been leaked in the past, we now exclusively have the first press renders of the Honor 8A. As you can see in the images, the phone will be available in two colors: Black and Blue. Also, the phone will have a glass back (or clear plastic) instead of a full metal body of the Honor 7A.
The Honor 8A will be first launched in China on January 8 and then brought over to the Indian market in the next few weeks. Let us have a look at its specifications.
Honor 8A Specifications
The Honor 8A will have a 6.09-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1560×720 pixels and 283ppi) and a waterdrop-shaped notch. There’s a thin earpiece just above the front-facing camera and there’s a sizeable chin below the screen. The phone will come with EMUI 9.0 which is based on Android 9 Pie operating system. The entry-level smartphone will use the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset (MT6765) with 2.3GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. It will be available in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB. There will also be a microSD card slot for storage expansion (compatible with up to an additional 512GB). The phone measures 56.28×73.5×8.0mm.
In the imaging department, looks like the Honor 8A will be kind of downgraded compared to the Honor 7A. The Honor 8A will have an 8MP front-facing camera with a fixed-focus lens and f/2.0 aperture. The 13MP rear-facing camera will feature f/1.8 aperture and phase-detection autofocus. There’s no 2MP depth-sensing camera this time around. The rear-facing camera can record 1080p Full HD videos as well. Interestingly, there’s no fingerprint reader on the rear so it is most likely that the phone will have to rely on face unlock for user authentication. The Honor 8A will have a 3020mAh battery. The phone also features a dedicated dual-SIM card slot. The phone carries model numbers: JAT-AL00, JAT-TL00, and JAT-L29.
