On: December 14, 2018

The Honor 8X was announced in India in the month of October alongside the bigger Honor 8X Max following a launch in China in the previous month. It shipped with Android Oreo and now the handset seems to be getting ready for a treat of Android 9.0 Pie. We’ve spotted a Huawei device with model number JSN-AL00a on Geekbench today running Android Pie. This is undoubtedly the Honor 8X and testing for Android Pie has started on the handset unsurprisingly. Huawei’s EMUI 9.0 program is in full force as the company is currently pushing the update to some of its recent smartphones.

As regards the Honor 8X, it is already official from Honor’s side, however, with the appearance of this Geekbench record, it’s clear that we could see a stable update from Honor soon. We recently reported last month that Honor had kickstarted a beta testing program for the new Nova 3i and Honor 8X, however, this was a closed beta. A stable release is yet to happen. Previously, Honor has been seeding an EMUI 9.0 update to the Honor Play, Honor View 10, and the Honor 10. Being in the closed beta phase, the update is hardly ready for a daily driver but if Honor 8X users want, they can opt-into the closed beta. It is expected that a stable release could arrive by the end of this month.

As for EMUI 9.0, it is based on Android Pie and comes with a number of great new features that will definitely improve the overall experience and efficiency of the handset. Amongst the highlighted features of EMUI 9.0 is GPU Turbo 2.0. This is a renewed version of GPU Turbo 1.0 which improves upon the original one in gaming areas significantly. Huawei has also lent a more minimalistic design to the UX with more natural touches such as wallpapers, sounds, and animations. EMUI 9.0 also improves upon the general day-to-day performance of the OS with app response times speeded up by 25.8 percent and overall efficiency by 12 percent. There are other new features on the renovated OS as well that make EMUI 9.0 much more appealing than its predecessor.
