- Honor confirms its future phones will come with Google Mobile Services
- The Honor 50 series will be the first phones to feature Google services after the trade ban
- The lineup will include a Snapdragon 778G powered 5G handset
Upcoming Honor phones will come with Google Mobile Services (GMS). The official confirmation has come from Honor Germany when it replied to a fan who asked whether the Honor 50 series of flagship phones will come with Google services.
In May 2019, the U.S. government had imposed a trade ban on Huawei, which prevented it from doing business with US-based firms like Google, Qualcomm, etc. As a result, Huawei had to resort to launching phones without Google Mobile Services (GMS) following the ban. Since Honor was a sub-brand of Huawei at the time, the trade ban also prevented Honor from launching phones with Google apps and services.
Honor phones to ship with Google Mobile Services (GMS)
Last week, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform. Soon after its launch, Honor confirmed that its upcoming Honor 50 series will feature the new Snapdragon 778G chip. Honor Germany in response to a tweet has confirmed that the phone will come with Google services. It further mentioned that the Honor phones will continue to feature Magic UI.
In a bid to cut down on the losses, Huawei sold off the Honor brand to a consortium of Chinese companies in November last year. Now that it has become an independent brand, Honor is now rebuilding its partnership with the brands in the US.
Previously, Honor phones mainly featured Kirin chipsets, but its partnership with Qualcomm suggests that it may launch more phones with Snapdragon chips in the future. After becoming an independent entity, Honor has launched a couple of phones in China. The new developments suggest that the company could be planning a comeback in Asian and European markets.
Honor 50 series key specifications (Rumoured)
The upcoming Honor 50 series is also expected to include a Snapdragon 888 powered smartphone, which could debut as the Honor 50 Pro. Rumours suggest that the Honor 50 series has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that delivers a 120Hz refresh rate and a 32-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual selfie camera system. It may come with 50-megapixel + 13-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 8-megapixel (periscope telephoto) triple camera system.
