Honor Play 8 with Waterdrop Notch Display and Helio A22 Launched in China

In April, Honor had launched the Honor 8S entry-level smartphone in Russia. Today, the same phone has been introduced in China as the Honor Play 8. The handset carries a very affordable price tag of 599 Yuan (~Rs 5,970). At that price, the smartphone offers a tall aspect ratio display, a decent processor and impressive camera.

The Honor Play 8 is fitted with a 5.71-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch. The display offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The MediaTek Helio A22 chipset is present under the hood of the device. The chipset is coupled with 3GB of RAM and it features 32GB of native storage. There is a microSD card slot on the device for expanding its storage.

The back panel of the Honor Play 8 features an f/1.8 aperture 13-megapixel camera with LED flash and HDR support. Placed inside the front notch is an f/2.2 aperture 5-megapixel selfie camera. There is no fingerprint scanner on the device. Hence, Honor Play 8 users will have to solely rely on its AI face unlock for user authentication.

The Honor Play 8 is backed by a 3,020mAh battery that lacks support for fast charging. The phone runs EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie. The usual connectivity features like dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, microUSB 2.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack are also available on the Honor Play 8. The smartphone measures 147.13 x 70.78 x 8.48mm. The polycarbonate rear of the phone has a faux leather section for a better grip.

Honor 8 Play Price and Release Date

The Honor 8 Play is priced at 599 Yuan (~Rs 5,970). It can be bought in Black and Blue colors. There is no word on when the smartphone will be arriving in India.
