Honor has announced the all new V20 smartphone in China today. The flagship phone is packed with some enticing features such as a larger display that offers an impressive screen-to-body ratio, powerful 7nm Kirin 980 chipset, 48-megapixel rear camera, 3D ToF sensor, 25-megapixel selfie shooter and big battery.
Design and Display
The Honor V20 has an attractive 3D glass rear that is curved from all four sides. The V-shaped texture on the rear glass exhibits different hues when light falls on it from varied angles.
The Honor V20 houses a 6.4-inch display that features a 4.5mm punch hole at the top-left corner for the selfie camera. There are slim bezels surrounding the display which allows the phone to deliver a screen-to-body ratio of 91.82 percent. The punch hole display features full HD+ resolution of 2,310 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
The Kirin 980 chipset that powers the Mate 20 series of flagship phones and Honor Magic 2 is present under the hood of the Honor V20. Coupled with GPU Turbo technology, the smartphone promises good performance even during intensive gaming. The EMUI 9.0 based Android 9 Pie is preinstalled on the Honor V20. It lacks support for a microSD card slot. The handset ships with the YOYO virtual assistant.
A big-sized 4,000mAh battery is present onboard to keep the lights on. The handset carries support for 4.5V/5A SuperCharge fast charging. The battery can charge up to 55 percent capacity by charging it for only 30 minutes. The V20 is equipped with NINE liquid cooling technology which promises PC-level heat dissipation for core heating components like the camera, CPU and charging IC.
The Honor V20 smartphone is designed to support high-end gaming. At the launch event, Honor revealed that the V20 has received 5-star certification from Tell Labs. The latter is a known body that has built set of tests to check the gaming prowess, smooth performance and endurance of the V20.
The Honor V20 has a unique horizontal design for its dual camera setup which includes a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 main sensor and a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) lens. The main sensor that has f/1.8 aperture lens offers features like 4-in-1 pixel, AI HDR, EIS, AIS, slow-motion HD video recording at 960 fps, and LED flash. The Super Night View mode is also present on the device for capturing better shots in darker conditions.
The 3D ToF lens is available on the device to capture the depth. It can also assist in 3D body shaping to perfect the captured full-height images. It can also used in creating 3D characters of the users and it also enables motion capture for fun AR.
For shooting selfies, the Honor V20 is blessed with a 25-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture. It carries support for AI photo, fun AR, HDR and more.
The Honor V20 carries support for a PC mode which means users can connect it to a bigger display, a keyboard and a mouse to take advantage of a full-fledged PC experience. There is support for dual-frequency GPS position on the device for precise positioning. The Link Turbo technology is also present on the Honor V20 which offers boosted internet speeds by combining Wi-Fi and LTE connections.
A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear shell of the V20. The other features that are included in the device are dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack.
Pricing and Release Date
The Honor V20 comes in three colors such as Magic Night Black, Charm Sea Blue and Charm Red. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage models of the V20 are priced at 2,999 Yuan (~Rs. 30,500) and 3,499 Yuan (~Rs. 35,500) respectively.
There is a special edition version of the smartphone called Honor V20 MOSCHINO that has been designed in partnership with Italian luxury brand MOSCHINO. The handset will be available in Blue and Red colours only. It is priced at 3,999 Yuan (~Rs 40,600).
The Honor V20 pre-orders have started in China. The first sale of the handset will take place on December 28th. The MOSCHINO edition will also available from the same date.
Honor has not mentioned anything on the international availability of the Honor V20. However, the Chinese manufacturer has already confirmed earlier in this month that it will be the handset as Honor View 20 in international markets. There will be a dedicated launch event for it on January 22nd in Paris. India is also expected to receive the Honor View 20 in January 2019.
