At the launch event of the Honor Magic 2, Huawei’s sub-brand also unveiled a tablet dubbed as the Waterplay 8, and the Watch Magic smartwatch. Let’s take a look at the technical specifications of the devices.
First up is the Waterplay 8 tablet, which features an 8-inch FHD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. As the name suggests, Honor’s latest tablet is IP67-certified for water- and dust-resistance.
A key feature of Waterplay 8 is its dual rear camera setup which comprises 13MP and 5MP sensors. Upfront, a 8MP sensor with fixed focus is fitted for selfies and video calls.
The Waterplay 8 is powered by a Kirin 659 octa-core processor paired with a Mali T-830 GPU and 4GB RAM. In terms of storage, the device offers up to 128GB internal memory depending on the user’s needs. It is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card slot. The Honor Waterplay 8 draws its power from a 5,100 mAh battery unit. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS with EMUI 8.0 skinned on the top. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C and NFC.
The Waterplay 8 is available in three options: 4GB+64GB Wi-Fi, 4GB+64GB LTE and 4GB+128GB Wi-Fi. The base variant is priced at CNY 1,499 (Rs 15,000). The 4GB+64GB LTE version costs CNY 1,799 (Rs 19,000). while the higher 128GB Wi-Fi model retails at CNY 1,899 (Rs 20,100). The Waterplay 8 is up for pre-booking in China and will go on sale in the country from November 6th.
Honor Watch Magic:
Next in the line is the Honor Watch Magic which is quite similar to the Huawei Watch GT. The Honor Watch Magic flaunts a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display with a 390 x 390 pixel resolution. Design-wise, this smartwatch features a metal and plastic build and is waterproof up to 50 meters. It is available in Lava Black and Moonlight Silver color options.
The Watch Magic is powered by a 178 mAh battery unit which is claimed to last up to 7 days. The device packs 16MB RAM and 128MB storage. It supports both Android 4.4 (or above) and iOS 9 (or later) using Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
The smartwatch offers health and fitness tracking features. It has a optical heart rate sensor that measures the user’s heartbeat. Sensors on the device include a barometer, gyroscope, ambient light, and compass. The device also features NFC connectivity, Huawei Pay and Paypal support.
As for pricing, the Moonlight Silver variant has a price tag of CNY 999 (Rs 10,500). The Lava Red model retails at CNY 899 (Rs 9,500). The Honor Watch Magic is available in China currently, and we expect Honor to release it in other markets as well.
