Finally, the Taiwanese smartphone maker is all set to launch its sci-fi look alike phone – HTC U. We’ve already reported that the company will soon be unveiling the phone and now we have a date – 16th May 2017.
There have been numerous leaks about the phone already and now it seems like all of them could turn out to be true. First emerged as a concept phone, the HTC U comes with a touch-sensitive metallic frame which the company likes to call “Edge Sense”. It let designers add contextual controls that occupy very little screen space, thus leading towards a clean and streamlined user interface. It also gives an idea about the kind of technology HTC is experimenting with for next high-end smartphones.
The Edge Sense technology uses sensors embedded in the frame to let users access apps by just rubbing or squeezing the sides of the handset. Earlier, a promo video of the phone was also leaked showing a glimpse of Edge Sense technology. It lets users scroll and navigate between apps and even take selfies just by rubbing on the edges. Swiping the touch-sensitive right edge summons voice assistant to give any command while swiping the same spot inside the music app changes the volume. In a similar way, the same spot act as a camera controller while inside the photography app.
Talking about specs, the phone is rumoured to sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It is also said to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor and feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX362 sensor. On the front, it is believed to sport a 16-megapixel snapper with Sony IMX351 sensor.
Well, as of now, everything seems to be little foggy therefore it is recommended to take this information with a pinch of salt.
