In May, Taiwan-based HTC had announced the HTC U12+ flagship smartphone. Just as HTC had released U11 Life smartphone as a lower variant for the HTC U11 flagship phone in 2017, it has today unveiled the U12 Life smartphone with upper mid-range specs at the IFA 2018 tech trade show in Berlin, Germany. The U12 Life has an elongated display as its supports an aspect ratio of 18:9. The rear design of the phone resembles the dual-tone design of the Google Pixel smartphones.
HTC U12 Life Specifications
The acrylic rear panel of the HTC U12 Life has a dual-tone finish. The upper portion of the rear shell that houses dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner has a glossy appeal. The remaining part has soft and subtle stripes that accentuates its appeal. The handset weighs 174 grams and its dimensions are 158.5 x 75.4 x 8.3mm. The handset comes in two colors like Moonlight Blue and Twilight Purple.
Instead of the IPS LCD panel available on the predecessor phone, the U12 Life has arrived with LTPS IPS screen of 6 inches. The screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 delivers Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.
The Snapdragon 636 processor powers the HTC U12 Life. It is assisted by 4 GB of RAM. The handset offers an inbuilt storage of 64 GB and its has a microSD card for more storage. The handset is preloaded with HTC Sense UI flavored Android 8.1 Oreo. The handset is packed with a 3,600mAh battery that carries support for 5V/2A charging.
The vertical dual camera setup placed on the rear panel of the U12 Life features 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 5-megapixel secondary sensor for adding depth while capturing photos. The dual cameras are enabled with features like dual-LED flash, face detection, panorama mode, HDR, 4K video shooting and face detection.
At the front of the U12 Life is a 13-megapixel fixed-focus BSI sensor with f/2.0 aperture for shooting selfie shots. It is equipped with features like LED flash, HDR, beauty mode, Full HD video shooting and face detection. The Video Pic feature available for the front and rear cameras allow users to capture photos while shooting images.
For connectivity, the HTC U12 Life comes with features like dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and GPS. HTC had removed the 3.5mm audio jack feature from the predecessor phone but has reintroduced it on the U12 Life phone. HTC has also added stereo speakers on the smartphone. However, they aren’t dubbed as Boom Sound speakers as it does for its flagship phones.
HTC U12 Life Pricing and Availability
HTC U12 Life will be coming to multiple markets such as Europe, Asia and the Middle East either by the end of the coming month or early October. The U12 Life will be landing in the U.K. with a pricing of £300 which converts to ~Rs. 27,660. It sounds a bit costly when flagship phones like Xiaomi Poco F1, Honor V10 and Asus ZenFone 5Z are available with similar pricing in India.
