Huawei Honor 8 & Honor 8 Smart Launched In India, Priced At Rs 29,999 And Rs 19,999

On: October 12, 2016

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has finally launched the Honor 8 in India. The successor to the Honor 7, the new device picks up a thing or two from the current flagship, the Huawei P9.

The Honor 8 sports a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. This translates to a Pixel density of 424PPI on the LCD panel. Unlike the metal unibody design of the Honor 7, the new phone has a glass back. The glass metal sandwich design with 2.5D glass on front and back is a first for a Huawei smartphone.

The phone is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz with 4GB of RAM and a Mali- T880 GPU. The phone has the EMUI skin on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There is 32GB of storage onboard that is expandable further up to 128GB via a microSD card slot. Similar to Honor 7, it is also a single SIM smartphone.

The Honor 8 has a dual camera setup much like their current flagship the Huawei P9 but unlike the P9 there is no Leica branding. The phone has two 12-megapixel sensors at the back. One captures details in color while the other is a monochrome sensor that captures in black and white. It has an f/2.2 aperture, dual tone LED flash, dual ISP and laser autofocus. The phone also features an 8-megapixel front facing camera for selfies.

The phone sports a clickable 3D fingerprint sensor on the back. The company claims that it can unlock the device in just 0.4 seconds, a claim we would want to put to test against other sensors. The fingerprint sensor on the Honor 8 is dubbed ‘Smart Key’ and can be configured to do various actions or launch apps. It comes with three customized shortcuts for the single press, double press and press and hold. The Honor 8 has a non-removable 3000mAh battery and a Type C port for charging. The device also features NFC for wireless payments.

Talking about the connectivity, the device supports 4G with VoLTE over two bands in India, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth v4.0.

The company is also offering 24 months extended warranty, 3-month screen replacement warranty and 3-month replacement service for any manufacturing defects along with the device. The device is available in three colors – Pearl White, Sapphire Blue, and Sunrise Gold. It will go on sale on today itself starting from 3 pm on Amazon India, Flipkart and the Honor Online Store for Rs 29,999.

The company has also launched another variant Honor 8 Smart. Expect for the 2GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a slower Kirin 650 processor and the dual rear camera setup, it features all the same specs as Honor 8. Honor 8 Smart features a 13-megapixel single rear camera with Sony IMX214 sensor. It is priced at Rs 19,999.

Apart from the Honor 8 & Honor 8 Smart, Huawei also launched its first ever “Made In India’ smartphone, Honor Holly 3 for Rs 9,999.
