The Huawei Mate X2 has launched in China today. It is the third foldable smartphone from the brand after the original Mate X that went official in 2019 and the Mate Xs from last year. When folded, the foldable screen remained on the outside of the Mate X and Mate Xs devices. However, the newly announced Mate X2 has sports an in-folding design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

The Huawei Mate X2 is equipped with two screens. On the outside, there is a dual punch-hole screen. The device can be opened like a book to view its inner foldable screen. The Mate X2’s foldable display offers a full-screen experience as it is devoid of any notch or punch-hole cutout and it does not crease while opening or closing.

The Huawei Mate X2 has an external OLED display measuring 6.45-inches with 2,700 x 1,160 pixels resolution. It features a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and a 413ppi pixel density. The foldable OLED screen available on the inside produces a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. The inner screen offers a 90Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and a 456ppi pixel density.

The 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset drives the Huawei Mate X2 with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The foldable phone comes in two UFS 3.1 storage choices like 256GB and 512GB. For additional storage, it has an NM card slot. It is backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 66W rapid charging.

Coming to optics, the dual selfie camera system of the Mate X2 features a 16-megapixel main camera and a ToF sensor. It supports photography features such as portrait mode, panoramic mode, smart filters, selfie portrait mirroring, time-lapse photography, and voice control.

The rear camera module of the Mate X2 consists of four cameras as a 50-megapixel primary shooter with f/1.9 aperture and OIS support, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto snapper with OIS support, and an 8-megapixel super zoom camera that supports OIS and 10x optical zoom.

The rear cameras offer features like laser autofocus, colour temperature sensor, LED flash, high pixel mode, dual-screen recording, super night scene, HDR, time-lapse photography, portrait mode, superwide mode, macro mode, 960fps 1080p slow-motion video shooting, and 8K video recording.

The Huawei Mate X2 runs on EMUI 11 based Android 10. Its other features include dual SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, infrared sensor, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, large-amplitude dual speakers, and USB Type-C.

The Huawei Mate X2 variants like 8GB RAM + 256GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage are priced at RMB 17,999 (~Rs 2,01,800) and RMB 18,999 (~Rs 2,13,000), respectively. It comes in four exciting colours such as Ice Crystal Blue, Ice Crystal Pink, Bright Black, and Glaze White. The company is yet to confirm its availability outside of China.
