Huawei P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and select other smartphones to get Android Q update

Huawei has been in troubled waters since being blacklisted by the US government and as a result, most brands severed ties with the Chinese company. The most prominent among these was Google, which announced that going forward, Huawei smartphones would not receive future Android updates, and new Huawei phones would be banned from using Android services. Huawei has now announced some good news for Huawei P30 and Mate 20 series consumers.

Since the Huawei P30 and Mate 20 series were launched prior to the US trade ban, they were eligible for continued access to Google services. Today, the smartphone maker has gone ahead and announced that these flagships will also receive the upcoming Android Q update. Apart from that, the flagships will continue receiving security patches. This is certainly good news for owners of these phones, who would have shelled out a significant amount of money to purchase them.

To recap, the Android Q update comes equipped with a slew of new features like dark-mode, enhanced location data controls, and Digital Wellbeing timers. Huawei said “Our most popular current devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. In fact, we have already launched a beta developer program for Android Q which is running right now on our Mate 20 Pro device.”

Apart from this, Huawei has also confirmed that all existing Huawei phone users will continue receiving Android security updates and will not lose access to the Google Play Store. If you are a new Huawei P30, Huawei P30 Pro, Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro, rest assured that you will get Android Q update.
