A day before the Huawei P40 series is scheduled to make a global debut, notable gadget tipster Roland Quandt has revealed the key specifications, features and the tentative price of the smartphones for the European market. The Huawei P40 and P40 Pro feature Kirin 990 5G processors, 50-megapixel primary cameras, dual front cameras, and 5G modems. The tipster has only shared details on the P40 and P40 Pro models. Details of the Premium variant are currently under wraps.
Huawei P40 Pro specifications and price
The Huawei P40 Pro flaunts a 6.58-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2640 x 1200 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. The device features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, further expandable via the newNanoMemory-2 SD card. The European variant of the P40 and the P40 Pro runs on the 2.86 GHz octa-core Kirin 990 5G chipset. The SoC will be coupled with 8GB of RAM. In order to achieve optimum performance from the processor, Huawei has incorporated a superior graphene cooling system called SuperCool to keep the chipset from overheating under extreme usage.
Starting with the pill-shaped camera cutout on the display, the Huawei P40 and the P40 Pro feature a 32-megapixel selfie sensor along with a secondary lens for depth effects. The P40 Pro flaunts an IR sensor capable of face detection.
The Pro also gets dual RYYB sensors, one each for the 50-megapixel UltraVision lens for photography and 40-megapixel videography lens. The primary sensor is equipped with OIS and Octa Phase Detection (Octa PD), enabling quicker focus. AI aids include XD Fusion Engine, which Huawei claims offers processing data with “unmatched clarity and pixel-level”.
The third 12-megapixel telephoto lens in the P40 Pro’s camera setup supports 50x SuperSensing Zoom without compromising on imaging integrity. In addition, there is a 3D depth sensor and a macro sensor can capture images from a minimum distance of 2.5 cm are also available. The handset is capable of recording 4K videos using both the front and rear sensors, even in poor lighting conditions with a maximum ISO sensitivity of 51,200.
The P40 Pro draws power from a 4,200mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge support and sports an IP68 dust and waterproof rating. The pricing of the P40 Pro starts at €999 (~Rs 82,400). It is expected to come in 128GB and 256GB storage sizes and in colours like silver, gold, white and black. The Huawei P40 and P40 Pro run Android 10, but miss out on essential features like Google Play Services. Instead, the devices features Huawei’s App Gallery.

The Huawei P40 flaunts a 6.1-inch OLED with a resolution of 1080+ pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The handset is powered by a 3,800mAh battery with 22.5W fast charge support. The P40 runs on the Kirin 990 5G SoC also found on the Pro variant, minus the SuperCool functionality. The device features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage, further expandable via NanoMemory-2 SD cards.
The Huawei P40 features a triple camera system. It has a 50-megapixel RYYB main lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and a 16-megapixel ultrawide camera. The first two sensors are equipped with OIS. It has the same selfie snappers found on the Pro model.
It is expected to cost €799 (~Rs 65,800) and it will come in the same colours as the Pro model.
