Huawei has had a rocky road this year with US trade ban impacting its smartphone biz as brands like Google withdrew their support. However, that didn’t stop the company from launching impressive smartphones like the Huawei Mate X and the Huawei Mate 30 series. Recently, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G was crowned the best camera phone by popular camera benchmarking portal, DxOMark. Now, one of the leading market research firms, Counterpoint has predicted that in the year 2020 Huawei will be the leading brand when it comes to 5G smartphone market.
According to the list shared by the firm, the global 5G smartphone shipments will exceed 270 million units in the coming new year. It’s being speculated that from the current circulation of one percent of 5G smartphones in the market, it will swell up to 15 percent penetration rate. Counterpoint has shared a chart depicting how the various brands are expected to rank in terms of 5G phone shipments. In the chart, we can see that Huawei and Honor together will be the leading brand in terms of 5G smartphone sales. They are followed by Apple and Samsung in second and third position, respectively. It’s surprising to see Xiaomi in the sixth position after OPPO and Vivo holding 4th and 5th slot, respectively. Xiaomi is followed by LG, OnePlus, Google and Motorola, in that order.
For the uninitiated, Huawei’s in-house flagship chipset called HiSilicon Kirin 990 managed to bag the best 5G chipset award in the China Mobile Conference. The processor was awarded a five-star evaluation in multi-antenna signal performance. This is a much better evaluation compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus + Snapdragon X50 modem, MediaTek Helio M70 and Exynos 9820 with S5100 modem alternatives. The China Mobile also analysed the power consumption on 5G chipset and Kirin 990 had substantially lower power consumption compared to its rivals mentioned above. This means Huawei 5G smartphones will have lower battery consumption compared to their counterparts.
Huawei has already launched the Mate X and Mate 30 Pro 5G globally, of which the latter is powered by the Kirin 990 SoC. The company also has P40 and P40 Pro lined up to launch in March 2020, which will flaunt the same SoC.
