Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) With Pop-Up Camera And Kirin 710 Launched In India

Chinese manufacturer Huawei has launched its first smartphone with a pop-up camera module in the Indian market. It is dubbed as the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019). The device falls in the sub-20k price segment. Let’s take a look at the technical specifications and pricing of the smartphone.

Display and Design:

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 sports a 6.59-inch notch-less display bearing full HD+ resolution. It offers a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. On the back, the device flaunts a two-tone design like the Pixel phones and can be availed in Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue colour options. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for unlocking the phone. The selfie camera module pops out from the top left side. Huawei says that the Smart retract prevents the module from getting damaged when the phone is being dropped. 


On the imaging front, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) is equipped with a triple rear camera setup with a 6P lens filter. The module comprises of a 16MP primary sensor with f/1.8, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and 2MP depth sensor. The pop-up module houses a 16MP front camera. The Y9 Prime (2019) is backed by AI features and is capable of recognising more than 500+ scenes and 22 categories in real-time. 

Hardware, OS, and Battery:

Performance-wise, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) is powered by an octa-core Kirin 710F chipset. It packs 4GB RAM and offers 128GB internal storage expandable up to 512GB for additional needs.  The device also comes with GPU Turbo 3.0 for enhanced gaming performance. The Huawei Y9 Prime is backed by a 4,000mAh battery unit and runs EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie.  Connectivity options on the device include USB Type-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, hybrid SIM slot, 4G LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. 

Pricing and Availability:

The Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) has been launched at a price tag of Rs 15,990. It is Amazon exclusive and will go on sale starting from August 7. The smartphone will be available in offline stores from August 15. Launch offers include no-cost EMI options up to 6 months, exchange offer up to Rs 1,500, and 10 percent instant discount on SBI Bank cards. Jio users can avail benefits up to Rs 20,000. Customers pre-booking the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) from Croma and Poorvika mobiles can get Huawei Sport BT headphones and a 15,600mAh power bank worth Rs 4,599 for free.

At this price tag, the device will compete against Galaxy M40, Realme X, Vivo Z1 Pro and among others.
