Huawei Y9s with pop-up selfie camera and 4,000mAh battery goes official

In July, Honor had launched the Honor 9X and Honor 9X Pro smartphones in China. A rebranded version of the Honor 9X Pro is coming to certain markets like Iraq and Laos as the Huawei Y9s. The major difference between the Huawei Y9s and Honor 9X Pro is that the former features the older Kirin 710F chipset, whereas the latter is equipped with the latest Kirin 810 7nm processor. The Y9s’s main features include a pop-up selfie camera and 48-megapixel triple rear cameras.

The Huawei Y9s measures 161.3 x 77.2 x 8.8mm an weighs 206 grams. The polished glass body of the phone features a gradient finish. The device is fitted with a 6.59-inch IPS LCD Ultra FullView display that produces full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 391ppi pixel density. The smartphone offers a high screen-to-body ratio of 91 percent.

The Kirin 710F octa-core processor that is clocked at 2.2GHz powers the Huawei Y9s. The SoC is coupled with 6GB of RAM. It has an internal storage of 128GB. For additional storage, the device is equipped with a microSD card slot.

The back panel of the Huawei Y9s has an AI powered triple camera system with a 48-megapixel main lens with f/1.8 aperture, a 120-degree 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with f/2.4 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The triple cameras are assisted by features like AI scene recognition, HDR, super night mode, PDAF and LED flash. There is a pop-up selfie snapper of 16-megapixels with f/2.2 aperture and AI beauty.

The Huawei Y9s is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that promises nine hours of continuous video playback and 40 hours of continuous voice calls. However, it supports only 10W charging. The EMUI 9.1 based Android 9 Pie comes preinstalled on the device. The connectivity feature that are available on the Huawei Y9s are dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB-C and a 3.5mm audio jack. Lastly, it features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Huawei Y9s Price and Availability

In Iraq, the Huawei Y9s is up for pre-order with a price tag of around $239 (~Rs 17,000). However, there is no word on the release date and availability for other markets. Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal are the two colour editions of the smartphone.
