Hyundai IONIQ 5 customers will get extensive battery warranty and free car chargers

  • Customers can currently book the Hyundai IONIQ 5 in India
  • Hyundai hasn’t revealed the pricing of the EV just yet
  • The inclusion of these perks certainly makes the EV more attractive to prospective customers

Hyundai’s latest EV to launch in India, the IONIQ 5, is among the most feature-packed electric vehicles in the business today. Well, the EV recently went up for pre-booking and we’re now gaining more information on the warranty coverage for the onboard battery. As per the automaker, customers will have a warranty of up to eight years on the IONIQ 5’s battery, either as a 3-year/unlimited km warranty or an 8-year/1,60,000 km package. There’s also the option to boost the warranty by 5 years/1,40,000 km.

Meanwhile, customers of Hyundai’s premium EV in India will get three years of roadside assistance. Early customers of the IONIQ 5 will also receive 3.3 kW and 11 kW car chargers for free within 15 days of the vehicle’s purchase/delivery, the company said.

These are quite exciting perks, particularly for individuals who are hesitant to purchase EVs owing to a lack of charging infrastructure or uncertainties around the battery used. However, given that the price tag for the IONIQ 5 is likely to be steep, one would expect some of these features to be included by default.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 features, range, expected price

Indian customers can only get the 72.6 kWh battery pack version of the IONIQ 5, which can offer a range of around 630 km with a full charge as per ARAI’s testing standards. You can also benefit from 800V fast charging, allowing the EV to recharge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.

Performance is driven by the 160 kW motor, which can deliver 217PS of power and up to 350 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai says the motor enables the IONIQ 5 to go from 0-100 kmph in only 7.4 seconds. If the range and the performance don’t convince you of the car’s potential, including more than 60 connected features certainly will.

Hyundai will offer more details about the IONIQ 5’s availability next month, where we’ll also likely get precise details on the pricing. Based on the reports that we’ve come across so far, it seems like the EV would be priced at just under Rs 50 lakhs (ex-showroom).
