This car is going to be priced between Rs 45 to 55 lakh. That cost is in the range of premium SUVs like the Range Rover Evoque and others. While this price might seem huge on paper,  it is justified because this car comes with a lot of functions that put it squarely on top of its competitors.

Aesthetic design

This is a beautiful looking car no denying that with typical next-generation European hot hatch looks. This car has Parametric Pixel lights, a clamshell hood and flush door handles, all of which optimises aerodynamic efficiency. The wheels are aero optimized and are available in sizes up to 20 inches.

Ample space

This card is big.  It has a 118 in wheelbase, with the interiors being completely flat because of the lack of a transmission tunnel. Hyundai has applied the ‘living space’ theme into the interior.  That means passengers have enough room to stretch out and relax,  ample headroom, and a lot of usable storage space. The seats recline and the front seats have lower leg support.  You also get a single pane glass sealing to look at the stars sitting in the comfort of your car.

Great performance and a long-range

Power is generated from a single layer electric motor or a dual motor layout hooked up to either a 58-kWh or 72.6-kWh battery pack. The 2-wheel drive variant and 72.6-kWh battery ensures that this car hits 62 mph in 7.4 seconds, With a range of almost 300 miles. There’s also an all-wheel drive with the 72.6-kWh battery that generates 301 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque , which takes just 5.2 seconds to hit 62 mph, topping out at 100 mph. In terms of range you get between 292 and 298 miles On the two wheel drive models with the larger battery.

Convenient charging 

For electric vehicles to become popular batteries need to be charged quickly and conveniently.  According to Hyundai, the Ioniq takes 18 mins to charge from 10% to 90% using a 350-kW charger. Around 62 miles of range takes just 5 minutes to recharge. Owners can use the smartphone app to start and stop charging while Remote Climate Control allows them to schedule the pre-heating of the vehicle when connected to a power source. The manufacturer’s E-GMP  charging system supports both 400-V and 800-V charging infrastructures by utilising the motor and inverter to boost 400 V to 800 V for stable charging.

Augmented reality HUD

The windshield of this car can turn into a display screen,  which looks really cool especially when AR is involved. Hyundai has not divulged details about this system but it is reportedly quite similar to Mercedes-Benz’s AR-HUD technology.

Hyundai Smart Sense

Hyundai has been developing a system called “Highway Driving Assist 2” (HDA2) since 2017.  It has been developed to be a level 2 autonomous feature. The system  helps you maintain a safe distance and “when the turn signal is used at over 60km/h, it helps to merge in congested situations.”. This car also has smart cruise control which learns the driver’s habits like speed and distances between the car in front held on the highway. 

Literally a mobile charger

This car has a vehicle-to-load system, also called V2L, which is basically an output system that uses an inverter so you can use the vehicle as a charger.  You can always charge your phone using the USB port, but you can also charge larger equipment like an electric bicycle. This car has 2 V2L ports, one under the second-row passenger seats and the other next to the charging socket.

Eco-friendly interiors

Inside this car, the seats,  door trim,  floor covering, and armrest are made using eco-friendly materials like plastic bottles, plant-based yarn,  natural wool yarns, and leather processed with plant-based extract,  with even the paint using plant extracts for pigment.

This car is based on the Electric Global Modular platform or E-GMP platform, which is like a skateboard-like platform, unlike some electric cars which are built on the ICE platform. In the global market, this car is offered in an all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive configuration. The all-wheel drive model has a dual motor arrangement, With the motor mounted on both the front and rear axles. This arrangement pumps out 306 HP and maximum torque of 605 Nm. The rear-wheel drive model is the other variant which has only one Motor on the back axle. This arrangement pumps a maximum of 169 HP and 350 Nm of torque. Because it is less expensive, India is likely to get the rear-wheel drive option, while Hyundai may also launch the all-wheel drive version sometime shortly.
