The Indian Gadget Awards 2020 (Voice of the Industry) – the first of its kind and the largest gadgets awards in India has finally reached its culmination. The 30-member jury has cast its votes, and we now know the winners for all eight smartphone award categories.
While there were some obvious winners in these awards, we had some surprising results as well. Smartphones from brands like Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Realme, and POCO stole the limelight across various categories. Let’s take a look at the winners and runner-ups in all categories.
Best budget phone of 2020
The budget phone segment is one of the fiercest in terms of competition, with brands like POCO, Realme, Samsung, Motorola, and Xiaomi battling it out. We have our winner and runner-up and the competition was fierce as expected with a margin of only two votes between them.
POCO X2 with its 120Hz display, 64MP quad-cameras, 20MP dual selfie cameras, Snapdragon 730G SoC, and 5,020mAh battery with 33W fast charging was voted as the winner in this category. The Realme 7 Pro bagged the runner-up spot with its AMOLED panel, 64MP quad rear cameras, 32MP selfie camera, and 65W fast charging.

Best mid-range phone of 2020
OnePlus heated up the mid-range segment by launching the OnePlus Nord under Rs 30,000 and Google further fuelled the flame by launching Pixel 4a at an introductory price of Rs 29,990.
In this category, the OnePlus Nord was voted the winner, while 7,000mAh battery-toting Samsung Galaxy M51 made it to the runner up position.

Best affordable flagship phone of 2020
This is a relatively new category that comprises flagship smartphones which don’t cost a bomb. The category was made popular by OnePlus with its smartphones offering premium features at a fraction of the cost. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the OnePlus 8T was crowned the winner in this category. The second place went to Samsung’s affordable offering in the Galaxy S20 series, the Galaxy S20 FE.

Best mid-range camera phone of 2020
In the mid-range camera phone category, Google Pixel 4A was voted the winner thanks to its fantastic camera. In the second place is Vivo’s V20 Pro, which features 64MP triple rear cameras.

Best selfie phone of 2020
Vivo V20 Pro might have lost to Pixel 4A in the mid-range camera phone category, but it emerges on top in the best selfie phone of 2020 award category. It even beat the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, which made it to the runner-up spot.

Best camera phone of 2020
When it comes to the best cameras on smartphones, Samsung and Apple immediately come to mind. Therefore, it came as no surprise that the iPhone 12 Pro Max was voted winner, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra bagging second place.

Best gaming phone of 2020
The gaming phone category had strong contenders like ASUS ROG Phone 3, iQOO 3, Xiaomi Mi 10, OnePlus 8T and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The ASUS ROG Phone 3 bagged the crown in this category, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max grabbing the runner-up title.

Apple’s iPhone 12 series have bagged several awards so far, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that the brand bagged the winner and runner up positions for the phone of the year. While the top-end iPhone 12 Pro Max was awarded the trophy of the best phone of the year, whereas the iPhone 12 came in at second place. These phones beat some commendable offerings like the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi 10, OnePlus 8 Pro and more.
