Infinix launched the Infinix Zero 8 earlier this year. The powerful mid-range device features 48MP dual selfie cameras and 64MP quad rear cameras. Now, the brand has launched a toned-down variant of the smartphone in India called Infinix Zero 8i. The new launch is priced under Rs 15K in India, and as such, competes with Realme and Xiaomi.

The Infinix Zero 8i will go up against the Realme 7 (review) and Redmi Note 9 Pro. While the former starts at an identical price and has specs to match, the latter retails at a lower price point. Let’s take a look at how the Infinix Zero 8i fares against the competition.

The Infinix Zero 8i comes in a single variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The smartphone has been priced at Rs 14,999 and will be available on Flipkart. It is being offered in Black Diamond and Silver Diamond colours. The handset will go on sale starting December 9th.

The Realme 7 is offered in two configurations – 6GB + 64GB and 8GB + 128GB. These are priced at  Rs 14,999 and Rs 16,999, respectively. Interested buyers can purchase the smartphone from Flipkart and realme.com. It’s available in Mist White and Mist Blue colours.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro, on the other hand, comes in three options. The base model has 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and is priced at Rs 13,999. Next up is 4GB + 128GB variant with a price tag of Rs 14,999. Lastly, the 6GB + 128GB model retails at Rs 16,999 but is currently out of stock. The smartphone is being offered in Champagne Gold, Aurora Blue, Glacier White and Interstellar Black colours.

The Infinix Zero 8i is equipped with 16MP dual selfie cameras

The Infinix Zero 8i is one of the few smartphones under Rs 15,000 to offer a high-refresh rate display. The Zero 8i’s window to the world is a large 6.85-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2,460 x 1,080 pixels. Apart from that, the screen offers a smooth refresh rate of 90Hz.

The Realme 7 also comes with a 90Hz IPS LCD display but slightly smaller at 6.5-inches. The screen offers 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass layer for protection. The Redmi Note 9 has a 6.67-inch screen with FHD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass but misses out on 90Hz panel.

The Infinix Zero 8i houses the 12nm MediaTek Helio G90T mid-range gaming processor. The SoC is further paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. In the software department, the Zero 8i boots Android 10 out of the box with custom XOS interface on top.

The Realme 7 is powered by the 12nm, octa-core MediaTek Helio G95 gaming processor. This is an overclocked version of the Helio G90T with 5 percent better GPU performance. However, according to online reviews, the performance is the same for both chipsets. The chipset is aided by up to 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. In the software department, the smartphone boots Android 10-based Realme UI.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is the odd one out here with a Qualcomm chipset. The smartphone features a more power-efficient 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset. It offers up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. As for the software, the handset boots MIUI 11 based on Android 10.

The Infinix Zero 8i, Realme 7, and Redmi Note 9 Pro all feature a quad-camera module. The Infinix Zero 8i features a 48MP main sensor,  8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP unit and a dedicated AI shooter. In the front, the phone has a 16MP main lens backed by an 8MP ultra-wide camera.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also has a 48MP primary shooter with 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. In the front, there’s a 16MP camera for selfies. The Realme 7 wins this round with 64MP main camera backed by an 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP BnW portrait shooter, and 2MP macro unit. The front camera is the same as the Redmi Note 9 Pro.

The Infinix Zero 8i has a 4,500mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. The Realme 7 and Redmi Note 9 Pro have bigger 5,000mAh and 5,020mAh battery, respectively. The former supports 30W fast charging and the latter features slower 18W fast charging.

With two wins in the camera and battery department and a tie with Infinix Zero 8i in performance, the Realme 7 comes out on top in this comparison. The smartphone offers a 90Hz display, gaming processor, powerful cameras and fast charging battery under Rs 15,000.

Infinix poses serious competition with a bigger 90Hz display and similar performance, but misses out in the camera department. However, if selfies are your thing, the dual selfie camera setup on the Infinix offering will serve you better. Lastly, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is for those who are looking for a budget Snapdragon smartphone with an immersive display and good cameras.
