Instagram desktop: how to post photos and videos on Instagram from laptop or PC

Instagram is finally letting users posting photos and videos through desktop browsers. After testing the feature, the Facebook-owned social media platform has now made the feature live for most users. Prior to this, the only official way to post images and videos on Instagram via desktop was via Creator Studio on Facebook. This feature doesn’t work for personal accounts though, and is only for linked Instagram and Facebook pages.

The new desktop posting feature is great for users who edit images on their laptops or PCs before posting, since it eliminates the need to transfer images to a phone. If the feature has rolled out for you as well, let’s see how you can post your images, videos and creatives on Instagram using your desktop computer. 

How to post photos on Instagram from desktop?

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to share photos on Instagram using a web browser. 

  • Open Google Chrome, Safari or any other web browser currently installed on your computer
  • Type and login.
  • Once logged in, click on the “Plus” symbol next to the home icon
  • Click on “Select From Computer” and choose the images you want to post or drag the images inside the “create new post” window.
  • Adjust or crop the image according to your preference and then click Next
  • Write your preferred caption and click on the “Share” button to post the image

How to post videos on Instagram from desktop?

The method for posting videos on Instagram using a desktop browser is the same as the one we used above. However, it is worth noting that the new Instagram feature allows you to post only videos and not IGTV, Instagram stories or Reels. Here is how you can post videos on Instagram using your desktop browser. 

  • Go to from your desktop browser and login
  • Once you’re inside the account, click on the “Plus” icon and select the video you want to post on your Instagram account. 
  • Once selected, click on Next and follow the on-screen instructions. 
  • Finally, add the caption or hashtags and finally click on the “Share” button. 

While this might be the news for computer users, Instagram has a bunch of new updates for mobile users too. On your smartphone, you can now use the new Collabs test feature which lets you invite other accounts on Instagram posts and reels. In order to use this feature, you have to invite someone from the tagging screen. This feature might come in handy for Instagram content creators who often collaborate with brands and among each other.
