In the past three months, Apple has launched several new products like the Apple Watch 6 series, iPhone 12 lineup, HomePod Mini, new iPads, and MacBooks . Fresh information shared by well-known TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who is known for revealing key information on Apple devices has revealed what to expect from the company in 2021.
According to Kuo’s latest research notes to investors, the Cupertino-based firm has plans to launch an iPad with a mini-LED display. The report reveals that Career Technology, a Taiwan-based OEM will be the main supplier of mini-LED panels for the next iPad. Kuo also revealed that Apple will also announce the AirPods 3 in the first half of the year.
New iPad to arrive with a mini-LED panel
Mini-LED is a new kind of display technology that produces deeper blacks and better contrast ratio as compared to LCD screens. An LCD panel is lit with regular LEDs, whereas mini-LED is equipped with around 1,000 to 10,000 smaller LEDs. All the iPads that are currently available in the market have LED-backlit LCD display panels. The usage of mini-LED screens will allow iPads to offer better image quality, but not as good as an OLED panel.
Future iPads and MacBooks are likely to feature mini-LED panels since they are inexpensive to manufacture. Earlier this year, Kuo had stated that a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 27-inch iMac Pro, a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch MacBook Pro, a 10.2.-inch iPadand a 7.9-inch iPad Mini equipped with mini-LED displays will debut through the end of the coming year.
In the new report, the analyst claimed that an Apple iPad with a mini-LED panel will go into mass production in the first half of the coming year. Apart from providing mini-LED panels to Apple, Career Technology will receive orders for components for manufacturing other products like iPhone 13 and AirPods 3.
Kuo said that the mass production of the AirPods 3 will being in the first half of 2021. The third-generation earbuds will be equipped with System-in-Package, which will allow it to sport a design like the AirPods Pro. It is expected to come with other improvements like better battery life and a new wireless chip. The AirPods 3 will be priced reasonably since it will not come with advanced features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).
Apple makes use of a combination of soft and hard boards for the iPhone 12 batteries. The company is expected to switch to soft boards by Career Technology on the iPhone 13 series. This technology will increase the internal space for bigger batteries or other components and reduce manufacturing costs.
