iPhone 14 may come in e-SIM only and dual e-SIM or physical SIM variants

  • iPhone 14 series likely to arrive in e-SIM only and dual e-SIM / physical variants
  • iPhone 14 lineup may launch in September 2022
  • It may include iPhone 14, 14 Pro, 14 Max, and 14 Pro Max models

Apple iPhone 14 series is expected to launch in September this year. The lineup is likely to comprise four models such as the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It is speculated that the company may not launch a successor to the iPhone 13 Mini.

Previous reports had claimed that Apple may not offer SIM card slots on the iPhone 14 lineup, meaning it may lack a physical nano-SIM card tray. According to analyst Emma Mohr-McClune, GlobalData’s Technology Service Director, the iPhone 14 series will come in e-SIM only and dual e-SIM / physical SIM variants.

The analyst said that the upcoming iPhone 14 series will offer dual SIM capabilities like its predecessor. It will have a physical SIM slot and e-SIM support. She added that Apple may provide telecom operators with a choice to whether to sell e-SIM only iPhone 14 series alongside “more cellular business-friendly dual eSIM / physical SIM support models.”

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR that debuted in 2018 were the first iPhones to arrive with e-SIM technology. An e-SIM is a digital SIM, which makes it possible to use a cellular service without using a physical SIM. The iPhone 13 series allows users to use two SIM services at the same time, by either using two e-SIMs or one nano-SIM and an e-SIM. Since the iPhone 13 series supports multiple e-SIM profiles, it makes it convenient for the users to subscribe to multiple cellular plans and switch between them.

iPhone 14 series rumours

The iPhone 14 series will be the first iPhones, according to various leaks, to sport a punch-hole display. The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro may feature a 6.1-inch OLED panel, whereas the iPhone 14 Max and 14 Pro Max might come with a 6.7-inch OLED screen.

The early renders of the iPhone 14 lineup that were shared by YouTube Jon Prosser last year revealed that it will not feature a camera bump. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max may feature a 48-megapixel primary camera. The iPhone 14 lineup could be powered by the rumoured 5nm Apple 16 chip.
