The iPhone X went on sale just two weeks back but rumours and leaks about next year’s iPhones are already making rounds. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities, who has a good record for predicting future Apple products has released a new report for 2018 iPhone models. The report claims that there will be three new phones for next year and they will have the new notch-design that this year’s iPhone X comes with. Also, all the three devices will be available in different sizes and cater to varied price segments. Let’s take a look at what the new 2018 iPhone models will be like:
iPhone 6.5-inch OLED model
This will be the equivalent of ‘Plus’ model of the iPhone Apple has launched over the last couple of years. It is expected to be a completely bezel-less phone like the iPhone X but boast of a bigger 6.5-inch screen size. This variant might also come with a bigger battery but it is not a surety yet. There will be an OLED display on this device and its PPI would be somewhere around 480-500, making it the sharpest display on an iPhone ever. There is no price estimate for this model yet but it will obviously be the costliest iPhone in the next year’s lineup.
iPhone 5.8-inch OLED model
This variant will be an upgrade to the current iPhone X. It will probably come with changes under the hood and pretty much everything on the exterior will possibly remain same. It will be exciting to see what changes Apple brings to the table for this version. Even this model doesn’t have a price estimate as of now but it is likely to be the mid-priced iPhone among the three.
iPhone 6.1-inch TFT-LCD model
This will be a completely new addition to the lineup. Although it will be available for a cheaper price than the above two, it will resemble the form factor of iPhone X. So, for those looking to buy an iPhone bearing the all-new design at a lower price, this model might prove to be a solution. For the bargain, users will have to settle for a low-end TFT-LCD display which might have a PPI of 320-330. As per the report by KGI securities, this model might be the lowest priced variant and cost somewhere around $649-$749.
The report by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities was obtained by MacRumours and said, “Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets: We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs (for instance, the PPI will be lower). The primary selling points of the TFT-LCD model may be the innovative user experience of an integrated full-screen design and 3D sensing with a lower price tag (we expect it will likely be US$649-749)”
As of now, there is a long way to go for the next iPhone event and this report must be taken with a pinch of salt. However, the kind of models mentioned in the report seems like the probable lineup Apple will unveil next year. What is your opinion regarding these three devices?
