At the special keynote held in Steve Jobs Theatre, Apples has finally unveiled the much awaited iPhone 8 & 8 Plus. Similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 8 duo features the same design with a display size of 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch respectively. The iPhones, however, sports a new glass back extending support for wireless charging. This is the first time wireless charging is introduced in iPhones. The iPhone duo also packs the newer A11 chip consisting of six cores – 2 high power and 4 power efficient ones.
Both the phones come with an all glass body and three colour options – silver, space grey, and all new gold finish. While explaining more about the phones, Phill Schiller also claimed the devices to be durable even with a glass body as they are reinforced with a steel and copper structure. Applealso claimed the phones to be made of “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.”
Talking about the major feature – the new iPhones come with wireless charging capabilities. You just have to put the phones on an inductive surface and the phone will start charging. It works with the Qi wireless standard which Apple has also promised to expand to public spaces such as airports and cafes. Similar to the previous generation, the iPhone 8 & 8 Plus are also water and dust resistant. The phones feature stereo speakers which are claimed to be 25% louder and offer deeper bass than the iPhone 7. As far as battery life is concerned, the iPhone 8 & 8 Plus will last 2 hours more than the predecessors.
Coming to the camera section, the iPhone 8 houses a 12MP single rear camera whereas the iPhone 8 Plus sports a dual rear camera setup. It comprises of two 12MP sensors – one with a wide-angle lens and f/1.8 aperture and another one with a telephoto lens of f/2.8 aperture. The iPhone 8 Plus also gets a new Portrait Lighting feature which creates facial landmarks and enhances the light effects on the face with the help of machine learning.
At the event, Apple has also launched the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K and the iPhone X. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be up for pre-order starting 15th September and will be available starting 22nd September. The phones come in 64GB and 256GB storage options. Last but not least, the iPhone 8 will cost at a starting price of $699, whereas the iPhone 8 Plus will start at $799.
