On: September 13, 2017

Apple usually introduces a special product as a ‘One More Thing’ in its events. This year’s One More Thing was the iPhone X (pronounced as iPhone ten), a premium version of the standard iPhones launched every year. Apple termed it as the ‘future of smartphone’ and here is everything you need to know about it.

The iPhone X comes with an all new design with the display occupying almost the complete front portion of the phone. It comes with Super Retina Display, which is an improved version of the Retina Display. The edge-to-edge screen is complemented with a bunch of sensors and cameras clubbed together on the top. The new iPhone comes with a 5.8-inch OLED display which makes it even sharper and better. The phone features True Tone display which adapts the ambience. The display has a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels with 458PPI. The display comes with 3D Touch capability as well. The phone has IP67 certification which makes it dust and water resistant.

Since the display is edge-to-edge, there is no home button/Touch ID in the iPhone X. To compensate all the controls of the home button, Apple has provided each action with an alternative. To go back home, you can now swipe up from the bottom and it will close the active app and take you to the home screen. To go to the multi-tasking screen, you need to hold the bottom and swipe up. In order to trigger the control center, you need to drag your finger down from the top right corner.

To unlock your iPhone X, you now have Face ID. It will allow you to unlock your phone just by looking into it. This is made possible by neural link capabilities fitted into the sensors in the top section of the screen. The phone can also be unlocked when there is no light owing to the IR sensor and flood illuminator. In terms of performance, the iPhone X comes with A11 Bionic Neural Engine. The Geekbench scores spotted a few hours before the launch had superb results and the phone is expected to have super powerful performance.

The iPhone X features a dual-camera setup with advanced capabilities. Both the cameras are of 12 megapixels and feature OIS on both the lenses. The phone also features portrait lighting which will let you add different kind of effects into your pictures. The front camera in the iPhone X has a 7MP sensor of f/2..2 aperture. It will also have portrait mode and portrait lighting which is on the rear camera. The cameras are optimized and calibrated for augmented reality capabilities.

The new iPhone X has a better battery life and as per Apple, it will last 2 hours longer than the existing iPhone 7 Plus. The phone comes with fast charging capabilities which will allow it to charge 50% in just 30 minutes. Along with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, even the iPhone X will feature wireless charging which requires you to put the phone on a charging pad. As per Apple, the glass back in the phone is the strongest glass used in any smartphone in the world.

The iPhone X is priced at $999 for the 64GB variant and $1149 for the $256GB mode. For the Indian market, the 64GB model is reportedly priced at Rs. 89,000. The phone will be available for pre-orders starting October 27th and it can be purchased from November 3rd. The iPhone X will also be available on the same date in the Indian market, as per some reports.
