iPhone XR could get cheaper in India as Apple begins local assembly

Multiple reports regarding Apple’s plan to locally assemble the iPhone XR in India have been circulating on the internet. Now it looks like the Cupertino tech giant has finally kickstarted local assembly of the iPhone XR in the country. According to Reuters, iPhone XR retail boxes with “Assembled in India” tags have been spotted in India across various brick-and-mortar stores like Croma. The report further suggests that Apple is locally assembling the iPhone XR in the country at the Taipei-based contract manufacturer Foxconn’s factory. Thanks to the local assembly, the iPhone XR price in India could get cheaper.

Apple could reduce the price of the iPhone XR as it locally starts assembling the phone

The local assembly of the iPhones is part of the company’s strategy to expand its market share in India, which is the world’s second-largest smartphone market after China. Notably, this will also help the brand to avoid high import taxes, apart from meeting local sourcing regulations for opening its own retail stores in the country. In the future, the phone maker is also likely to assemble the top-end iPhone models in India. These moves should help the company to gain back its lost market share in the country.
