Disney+ Hotstar has a surprise for Airtel and Jio users in India. The customers of these telcos will be able to upgrade from a Disney+ Hotstar VIP membership to a Premium subscription without having to pay the full amount. Notably, regular Disney+ Hotstar users could upgrade from VIP to Premium in a similar manner in the past, but not users with partner voucher purchases including those from telcos.
It now appears that the plan upgrade option has been made for Airtel and Jio users as well. However, users of these telcos need to be on a prepaid or postpaid plan that offers the bundled Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription benefit. Airtel and Jio users can now upgrade from Disney+ Hotstar VIP to Premium plans
The Star Network India-owned OTT platform is offering the upgrade option to Airtel and Jio users, who are on a plan that offers Disney+ Hotstar VIP membership. They will get an option to upgrade after they login into their Disney+ Hotstar account. When users click on the ‘Upgrade’ button, they will be presented with the option to pay the balance amount and upgrade to the Premium plan.
The balance amount payable will depend on the time remaining on your existing VIP membership. The OTT app will automatically show you the balance amount depending on the time left in the VIP subscription. It goes without saying, if you don’t have a VIP membership, you’ll be required to pay the full amount for the Disney+ Hotstar Premium membership.
Disney+ Hotstar plans in India
The Disney+ Hotstar subscription is currently priced at Rs 399 per year for the VIP membership. In case you want to upgrade to Premium, you will have to pay Rs 299 per month or Rs 1,499 per year. The Premium membership allows users to watch content on two screens at a time and stream in FHD resolution. The VIP plan, on the other hand, is restricted to one screen at a time and offers only HD resolution.
Additionally, the VIP membership gives access to all content on the Disney+ Hotstar platform except for exclusives, American shows, and movies. As a Disney+ Hotstar Premium member, you get access to the entire library including English-language content, live sports, as well as the latest American TV shows, and Hollywood blockbusters.
