Jio announced its Air Fiber portable 5G hotspot device in India

Today, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) held its 45th annual general meeting (AGM) where the company announced its 5G services. Jio claims to provide its 5G services in the top metro cities by Diwali 2022, and by December 2023 company plans to deliver its 5G network to every town in this country. At the same event, Jio also announced its Jio Air Fiber services which will give an end-to-end wireless 5G experience. 

At the AGM, Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani stated that the Air Fiber service will enable customers’ homes or offices to connect to gigabit speed internet. Let’s learn more about what Jio Air Fiber is and how it works.

What is Jio Air Fiber?

In simple words, the Jio Air Fiber is a wireless plug-and-play 5G hotspot device which customers can use to enable their homes or offices with high-speed 5G connectivity. This portable device will connect hundreds of homes and offices to ultra-high-speed broadband within a short span. As it eliminates all the hassles of setting up a wired Wi-Fi router.   

Jio also displayed one of Air Fiber’s functionalities, wherein users will be able to simultaneously watch a live IPL match from numerous camera angles in ultra HD. Viewers can also swap between camera angles dynamically. Additionally, Air Fiber’s ultra-low latency allows users to engage in multiplayer cloud gaming or throw a watch party with their friends.  

At the moment Jio has not revealed any specific date for the launch or availability of its forthcoming Air Fiber device. As you already know the telecom giant plans to launch its 5G services in select locations in India by Diwali 2022, with a bigger deployment projected in the following months. While the Air Fiber will most likely be released after Diwali in cities where 5G services have been enabled.
